We recently connected with Sarah Francois and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Many people have said that life is not about the destination but the journey. I get my resilience from perceiving that life is in fact about the destination, because then, that in turn will shape your journey. I am a rapper, actress, model and minister. Being focused on where I want to arrive and what i want to achieve helps mold my determination. My mindset and my focus must be fine tuned, towards where I want to arrive. In turn, to arrive I must press through every setback, every stumbling block, every hindrance trying to block my path-which of course defines resilience. Being resilient, in my understanding is not about being strong; rather I believe being resilient is about knowing failure, is proof of effort and a major role of success. What I mean by this is, if I never fail, I’ll never grow. True successors are birthed from failure. It wasn’t easy getting started on my vision. I failed many times but it was in my failure I began to understand my vision more. It gave me a reason to want to protect my gift and be encouraged because if success came easy- I would have probably taken it for granted. I see where I want to be a d although it’s not always a straight road, it’s easy to push because it’s the destination that’s worth it.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
People first know me for being a gospel rapper. I love to rap and I love to speak about the Lord (Minister) combining the two has been amazing. I also am an actress and a model. Acting and modeling wasn’t always a desire of mine. It wasn’t until my brother started a production company called “A Lumene Chenet Studios”, that I realized it enjoyed being in front of the camera. What is exciting and special about what I do is the authenticity of the music I make. It is purely the Word of God mixed with testimonies about my life. What is also exciting, is that I do have a career in which I teach children and they’re always intrigued that their teacher is a rapper! At times, they find it hard to believe my content is really me. What’s new, is more content and expanding into a talk show. I used to host my own talk show a few years ago called “The Tissoe Show” and I would like to use every platform possible to spread the Word of God and positivity being that I am a role model for the younger generation. There’s so much negativity, why not be an option to prove to the youth, that anything is possible.!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three skills that have been and still are the most impactful on my journey are: being teachable, focus and love. All three work interchangeably with each other. They each have a work they do independently as well as being even greater together. To be teachable is not always an easy characteristic. You must be able to receive correction, criticism- that is the best way to grow, especially dealing with creativity and art. The advice that I would give anyone who wants to venture into arts is to keep an open mind especially in creativity. Yes, keep boundaries as necessary but don’t be afraid to try something different.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I can whole- heartedly say the person who has helped me the most in pursuing my vision I my brother – Mr. Lumene. Quick story, he started his company “A Lumene Chenet Studios”, focusing on the arts. He noticed my passion for music and challenged me to push for greatness. He wanted to pursue creating films and recruited me for acting positions (hence my start in acting.) When he wanted to try out photography, I was voluntold to be one of the first models and each time he wanted to brach out a new venture in his company- it grew a hidden passion from within me. For that, I can truly say my foundation was created alongside mu brothers establishment of his company.
