We recently connected with Sarah Turner and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I think it’s important to know that imposter syndrome doesn’t just go away. As you move forward and reach your next levels, it comes back in new and unexpected ways. So instead I like to think of imposter syndrome as a sign of growth. Because he always appears when I’m about to level up.
That’s why mindset work is so important throughout your journey and life. It’s the absolute best investment of time you will ever make in yourself and your business. And there’s no end to it. You never get to a point where you don’t need to improve. But it is SO worth it! Living with the right mindset will take you so far in business and in life.
Having a daily mindset routine with personalized affirmations helps remind you that imposter syndrome, doubt, and fear don’t have to limit how much you accomplish. All the hard work you put in has led you to this point. You deserve everything you’ve accomplished so far, and you deserve to live a life you genuinely love.
When you have a daily mindset routine, you know exactly what you need when things like imposter syndrome start reappearing. You can combat those negative thoughts and get back on track so you can continue reaching goals.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I created Write Your Way to Freedom to help people break free from the 9-5 world and become their own bosses by starting freelance copywriting businesses.
It’s important to me to show people that entrepreneurship is more accessible to them than ever before. So many people are realizing that the traditional 9-5 is not going to give them the life they’re looking for. No longer can you go to college and expect to get a well paying job that helps you pay down your debts and gives you the security to grow a family.
This entire model has shifted over the last few years, and it’s taken a while for people to adjust accordingly. I want people to know that there are so many options available to them and that they don’t have to settle for less.
Write Your Way to Freedom teaches copywriting, but it also teaches my students how to build their online business in a way that works for them. The community and lifetime support you get as a student is unparalleled. We have writers, editors, and coaches that are invested in the students’ success. We all help each other achieve our goals, so no one is on this journey alone.
I pride myself on giving students what they need to build the business of their dreams and achieve their own version of freedom.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Focusing on one small step at a time, realizing that I could figure anything out, and being willing to continue learning had so much impact on my journey.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you have a big goal or dream. There are often so many things you have to do that people tend to give up before they even really get started.
But when you realize you really can figure anything out (especially these days), you open up your mind to discovering new possibilities for how to get where you want to be. You’re able to solve problems along the way. And focusing on accomplishing one tiny step at a time will keep you moving forward and prevent overwhelm. It just takes some patience.
I always tell my students that as copywriters, we never stop learning. But I think this is true in every area of life. When we get stuck in limiting beliefs instead of embracing the potential for paradox we miss out on so many amazing experiences. Always being willing to learn something new can get you so far in life.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The Slight Edge is one of the best mindset books I’ve ever read. I’ve read it multiple times, and it always provides so much value.
You can use it to help you in just about any area of your life. It shows how you can accomplish big goals one tiny step at a time. The little things you do every day add up and can either help you get closer to the life you want or further away from it.
I’m constantly recommending it to anyone who wants to accomplish something in life, including my students. It was a huge game-changer for me and definitely helped get me to where I am today.
