Meet Sarim Dream

We recently connected with Sarim Dream and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarim, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
I haven’t exactly mastered this one. I actually find myself doubting my abilities quite often but what keeps me going is this listening and observing those thoughts. Questioning each doubt as it arrives until I’ve driven all of them into a corner. I think imposter syndrome can’t exist if you’re aware, mindful, and present. Its all about learning to doubt your doubts and believe your beliefs. Have faith and believe in yourself!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I want my life to be a change, an example of what I want to see in to world. My hope is for people to see the authenticity in my life and love and be inspired to do the same for themselves whatever that looks like.

That’s why I started Serendipity’s Friend. Serendipity’s Friend is an art studio and community building organization that puts on events for black and queer artists to showcase their talents. Whether that be poetry, music, or visual arts; I want to create an open space at my events to uplift my community and help them thrive. We also provide consultations to help queer and black artists represent and brand their most authentic selves to help grow a supportive audience.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think the most important moments of this has been to learn to enjoy the journey your on, to never wait until you have everything to find wholeness within yourself, and to have a set of morals to ground you even when you’re flying.

For those who are early on In their journey I would say, ignite a passion for learning, question everything and search deeply for your answers. Loose yourself in the journey so you can find yourself again, and most of all make meaningful connections with like-minded people.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Of course I am! I’m always looking for people to collaborate and connect with. The best way to reach me in through instagram or facebook @sarimdream. I’m moving to NYC soon so I’m currently looking for black and queer artists that would be interested in meeting/collaborating. I look forward to meeting you all!
