Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Saul Hernandez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Saul, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I try to paint or draw almost every day, I create a habit!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I was interested in art since I was a child. In Mexico I was working in a screen printing company and I was doing signs by hand as well, I become a master in both! But I always was dreaming to become an artist! In 2000, I left Mexico and came to USA, determinate to follow my dreams. After learning English, I took several classes in drawing, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic and oil.
Through the time and a lot of practices, I developed my stile, that I call progressive concept! Even though I do not like cell phones and computers, I find beautiful things in this technology and the social media so prevalent today! my paintings speak about progress and things that are happening today!
Be an artist, for me, it is not only about paint or draw, it is an away to live! It is a connection with life!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Determination to learn how to paint, sacrifice things in order to learn, and to take workshops with artists that admire! And also a lot of books and magazine about art and technique.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The book “An Artist Teaches” from the living Master David Leffel His philosophy in painting made so much sense for me
