Meet Savvas Christou

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Savvas Christou a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Savvas, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I’m primarily a filmmaker, but as a musician and fine artist, I fearlessly explore various creative paths. Whether blending storytelling, music, and art or tackling unconventional themes, I boldly showcase my work, unafraid of challenges. This fearless approach adds dynamism to my filmmaking journey and my path as an artist. I embrace movement and extreme ways of doing things, finding excitement in continually pushing beyond my comfort zone.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I organize festivals like the Cyprus Music Video Festival, Cyprus Dance Film Festival, and Cyprus Fashion Film Festival through my company ‘Cult Experiences.’ These events bring together diverse talents for creative expression.

As an artist, I’m planning exciting projects, including ‘To Teras,’ an improvised storytelling venture, and a mix of music videos, fashion films, and dance films. Two fully prepared films are also on the horizon, ready to transition into production. Exciting updates coming your way as these ventures unfold.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In reflecting on my journey, three crucial aspects come to mind. First, adaptability – evolving my work as an artist by embracing new tools and ideas, staying open to change.
Second, effective communication – acknowledging challenges or curiosities, even when it’s difficult. This openness fosters better collaboration and creative growth.
Third, a passion for continuous learning – improvising without fear of failure. Trying new things, whether they seem simple or complex, is a valuable learning experience. Even if something doesn’t work, there’s always a lesson gained from the process.

For those starting their journey, my advice is to embrace adaptability, practice transparent communication, nurture a passion for continuous learning, and fearlessly explore new ideas. Remember that every attempt, successful or not, contributes to your growth as a creative individual.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m open to collaborations! Whether you’re an artist or potential business partner interested in my festivals, connect with me on my social media platforms under @savvas_christou.

Let’s explore exciting possibilities together!
