Hi Shakinah, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Genetically speaking, my mom. She is not the average woman. She makes things happen all while working 6 days a week 14 hours a day. She never accepted No as a final answer. She got it done. Now majority comes from God and the way he crafted me. I do not stay down long. Even when diagnosed with epilepsy as a teen, I took it as a challenge because I know for sure God wouldn’t give me this type of test without a testimony to go with it.

I’m an Author. I’ve self published a book and a self care guided journal. I love that I have found such a freeing outlet for myself. I write daily whether it’s for my next project or overall self care to just release those thoughts and emotions. So stay tuned for more publishing works by me.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important things that impacted my journey would be Empathy, Discernment, & Curiosity. Empathy can give you the advantage of having different perspectives. Discernment is a skill that requires daily practice and wisdom from God. This will help in navigating people and relationships. Curiosity just helps feed the motivation to seek knowledge, wisdom, & understanding.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents did a few things that positively impacted my life. Both were ministers, so yes they introduced me to God but they also allowed me to ask questions and have my own relationship with him. They both also invested into all of my hobbies or interests no matter if I gave them up within a week. They always saw the best in me and challenged me to be greater and outdo myself. To say the least, they are Top Tier!! Love them!
