Shamar, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Finding one’s purpose in life is a deeply personal and ongoing journey. For me, it has been a process of self-discovery and growth, and I believe that I am still adding to my purpose as I continue to evolve and learn more about myself and the world around me. I have found my purpose by engaging in activities that I am truly passionate about, such as dancing and acting. These art forms allow me to express myself creatively and connect with others on a profound level. Through my involvement in these artistic pursuits, I have had the privilege of receiving messages from people on social media and in person, expressing how my work has inspired them to pursue their own passions for storytelling through dance and acting. It is incredibly humbling to know that my art has the power to ignite creativity and passion in others. The impact that I have on individuals on a daily basis, whether it’s through my performances or interactions, reinforces my belief that I am fulfilling a meaningful purpose through my artistic endeavors.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey as a dancer and actor, I believe that three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge have been particularly impactful. Firstly, discipline has been crucial in my development. The demanding nature of the performing arts requires a strong work ethic and the ability to stay focused and dedicated even when facing challenges. This discipline has allowed me to consistently improve my craft and navigate the ups and downs of the industry.
Secondly, creativity has played a significant role in shaping my journey. As a dancer and actor, the ability to think outside the box, bring originality to my performances, and interpret characters in unique ways has been essential. Embracing creativity has not only enhanced my artistic expression but also opened doors to new opportunities and collaborations.
Thirdly, emotional intelligence has been a key factor in my growth. Understanding and effectively conveying emotions is at the core of compelling performances. Developing emotional intelligence has enabled me to connect with audiences on a deeper level and bring authenticity to my work.
For individuals who are early in their journey as dancers or actors, I would advise them to focus on developing these qualities. Firstly, discipline is something that can be cultivated through consistent practice and setting achievable goals. By establishing a routine that encompasses both training and self-care, aspiring performers can build the discipline necessary to thrive in this competitive field.
Secondly, creativity can be nurtured by exploring various forms of art, seeking inspiration from diverse sources, and being open to experimentation. Engaging in improvisation exercises, exploring different dance styles, or delving into character studies can all contribute to expanding one’s creative abilities.
Lastly, emotional intelligence can be honed through self-reflection, empathy-building exercises, and studying human behavior. Actively observing and understanding emotions in daily interactions as well as delving into the psychology of characters can greatly enhance an individual’s emotional intelligence as a performer.
In conclusion, by prioritizing discipline, fostering creativity, and developing emotional intelligence, aspiring dancers and actors can lay a strong foundation for their journey in the performing arts.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely, I am always open to collaborating with talented individuals and organizations in the industry. Jamal Hill is a filmmaker and director whose work I deeply admire, and I would be thrilled at the opportunity to audition for him. His contributions to projects like BET+’s TV series “Angel” and the film “A Holiday Chance” showcase his exceptional talent and vision. I believe that collaborating with someone of his caliber would be an enriching experience for both of us.
Furthermore, I am also keen on the idea of collaborating with Viola Davis’s production company, JuVee Productions. The film “The Woman King” stands as a testament to the remarkable storytelling and cinematic excellence that they bring to the screen. Viola Davis herself is an inspiration, a powerhouse in the industry, and working with her and her team would be a dream come true. Their commitment to telling diverse and impactful stories aligns with my own artistic aspirations, making them an ideal partner for collaboration.
If Jamal Hill or anyone from Viola Davis’s production company happens to come across this, I would be honored to connect with them and explore potential collaborative opportunities. They can reach out to my agent: Rebecca Ek at Exclusive Artist Agency and my Manager: Corey Simon at Cultivate Entertainment Partners. I am excited about the possibility of working together and bringing our creative visions to life on screen.
