Meet Shamia Davis

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shamia Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Shamia, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My mother. Though she passed away in December 2001, I will always remember what she taught me and the valuable lessons I learned from observation. I saw her perseverance when she pursued law enforcement. The tests were difficult and time-consuming, but she pressed through because she dreamed of becoming a police officer. As a single mother of three and sole caretaker of her mother, she juggled many balls yet mastered the act of balancing. Looking back, I know it was challenging for her, but she executed so effortlessly. College education was often a hot topic in our home because, for her, it meant opportunity. She set the tone, receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees while working full-time, accepting off-duty work, and taking care of home. That’s why, despite the seemingly insurmountable obstacles that come my way, I find the strength to push forward and realize my biggest dreams. I thank my mother for instilling that fire inside of me.

Thanks, so before we move on, maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a Brand Copywriter and the proud owner of Kopy Fresh, a boutique agency that offers done-for-you copywriting, brand messaging, and web design services. Working primarily with bold service-focused businesses and personal brands, we help them position their brands in the market using powerful words and imagery, ultimately boosting their visibility, influence, and profits. Our work is so refreshing because we empower small businesses and brands to communicate confidently while presenting and maintaining a unique, consistent, and cohesive brand message and identity. The best part is we offer it all in-house!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most impactful qualities in my journey are commitment, courage, and intentionality. In other words, I am a lifelong learner dedicated to my craft, possess the audacity to do what scares me, and operate from a purposeful, feel-good space. My most significant advice for anyone starting a business or pursuing a career in copywriting is to learn as much as possible and seek guidance from people who are where you aspire to be.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Hands down, “Atomic Habits” by James Clear was a game-changer for me! I appreciated Clear’s simplistic delivery and practical advice for creating good habits and breaking bad ones. His proven framework made me realize the power of tiny changes and how they can transform your life significantly. To this day, I recommend this book to anyone looking to achieve their personal or professional goals with intentional strategies.
