Meet Shania Hayes

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shania Hayes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Shania, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my mom. Growing up she was a single mom raising two kids, and she had to do a lot by herself. No matter the odds against her, she always seems to manage to work things out. I grew up learning that no problem is too big to overcome. We should always continue to strive past adversity.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I created SMH productions as an idea of what can be possible. As a photographer, I love to capture moments in life. As a podcaster, I love to talk about the way we can stair away from toxic and negative ideas in life. As a filmmaker, I love to show the entertaining side of life. I have goals of creating a production company with my own film studio to be able to help push Ideas, collaborate with others, and expand imaginations. I’ve done interviews at film festivals & talent shows to showcase local talents and artists. I help curate events such a comedy shows, talent shows and poetry nights to give individuals platforms to be able to express their talents. I bring guest on my podcast to have deep conversations that are effecting individuals on a social level. I have collaborated with Youtubers, TikTokers, actors, filmmakers to create content that is entertainment for different audiences. Since becoming a mom I have taken a short break to focus on family but plan to come back in a big way.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I call myself with Jack of trades. I know a lot of people love to be a master of just one thing. Being the best Actor, the best writer, the best host, the best videographer. I like to gain knowledge in all these areas. I feel like it’s helped me understand not just what I want to do but also help be a team player. As an actor, I understand a videographer or Director because I’ve been in their shoes. I don’t get upset if we have to reshoot something 10 times. I don’t get frustrated if a model gets stuck and she doesn’t know how to pose. I understand the long process of editing content and how tedious it could be. Advice I can give to those looking to be a creator or be in business or an entrepreneur is don’t limit your knowledge. You don’t need to learn EVERYTHING!!! But don’t stop learning because it’s “someone else’s job”.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
I hate to say this is a challenge because it’s not. However, becoming a mom and balancing work has become a new challenge. As a mom I have big responsibilities that I have to fulfill, but being a creator I have dreams I want to fulfill. Balancing both can be challenging but it’s not impossible. I learned to take one day at a time. I can’t do everything but I don’t have to miss out on everything either. And the biggest thing is to not be so hard on myself. For all moms out there; We got this!!
