Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shanice Alexander . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Shanice , thank you so much for making time for us today. Let’s jump right into a question so many in our community are looking for answers to – how to overcome creativity blocks, writer’s block, etc. We’d love to hear your thoughts or any advice you might have.
I have gotten done with writer’s block by writing. I don’t think it’s any harder for me. I usually write still and find inspiration or write until it’s done. It’s easier to decide what I’m going to write or not going to.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a romance writer for three or four years now . I have written seven books and looking to publish on kindle. It has started during the pandemic and I continue to write from my first book, “The Nerd Has A Boner.” It’s about teenagers and their last year of high school. The next few books range from all sorts in the same field. I am graduating from High school to major in business and a creative writing minor to publish my books. I have gotten many scholarships for colleges to do that major and minor.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three skills would be writing, reading, and editing. You have to write and be able to read what’s said to know if it is good. Reading is something optional that could help all of the skills. You also have to edit those chapters so it sounds right.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
What has played an important role is writing the book and having it finished. You could read through it and it plays like a movie. It has all the parts and is edited. It’s a wisdom to write more from that.
