Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shannon Horton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Shannon, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience is learned through life experiences. Yet, there is a force within all of us that helps us navigate through these experiences no matter how easeful or challenging. Every experience and challenge faced in life results in resilience. Looking back at my life, I had the determination to get back up and try again. I had the awareness to ask deeper questions to help me navigate life better. I did this over and over. This resulted in the ability to navigate through life and challenges easier and without unhealthy stories being attached to the events.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My love for psychology and holistic wellbeing has guided me in helping others. I offer intuitive coaching and reading sessions that blends my training in holism and psychology. Many modalities used to help clients overcome limiting beliefs, and fears are: Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT or Tapping), Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), Somatic Therapy, and guided visualization.
Another area of expertise is around energy cleansing. I teach classes of how to clear one’s own energy field and that of their homes, personal property, and protecting themselves. I have seen and experienced entities (human or non-human souls that are in the in-between) that feed off the loosh (toxic or negative energy) created by our emotions, and unhealthy interactions or events. I was trained by the late Serge ‘Running wolf’ Martel on traditional Hawaiian and Native practices.
Happiness is another passion of mine. I teach workshops/classes on Happiness. I have written a book A Pocket Full of Happiness: Wisdom for a Happier Life. It is available on Amazon.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three skills most impactful of my journey are inquisitive, desire to be my best, and the desire to know the truth. Never stop questioning. Asking the right, higher evolved questions leads to the same level of answers. Magical doors open up. Always desire to be your best. Have the courage to seek the truth instead of taking another’s word as truth. When the student is ready, the master appears. This could be a mentor, educational opportunity, career, books, experiences, and more.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
It is easy to feel overwhelmed with all the responsibilities and demands in life. My strategy to address overwhelm in my life is to close my eyes and take slow, deep breaths. I remind myself that I am safe in the moment. I ask myself simple questions. For example if I have too much to accomplish in a day, I ask myself: What is the most important task to do in the moment? I accept if this is the only task I accomplish, that it is ok. Some tasks can take longer than they appear they will take. Other strategies are meditation, yoga, breathwork and Emotional Freedom Technique. Self-care is something I struggled with in the past. Recently, I have made this a priority because of burnout. I used to think that I had to do it all and get everything done off the list. I used to believe I had to be it all for everyone. It was too much. No one was verbally asking me to do it all and be it all. I put this pressure on myself. Old patterns and imprinting from childhood.
