We recently connected with Sharnesa Lamb and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Sharnesa with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic definitely came from my mother. Growing up honestly that’s all we saw her do . Not to mention she didn’t have the best bill of health, but it didn’t stop her from showing us you have to work . And to be completely honest, this is why I started cooking . As I stated, I am the second oldest. My big sister didn’t cook at the time, lol. So I had to get in that kitchen to prepare meals so when mom came home she could eat a hot meal. Still to this very day, she still works under her situations, but I love her for showing me don’t stop don’t quit grind , grind, and grind.”
Thanks, so before we move on, maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Yes, I am the owner and creator of KateringIIyou. I established this business in 2012 . Cooking has always come honest to me being the 2nd oldest out of 4 girls, I picked up on cooking real fast. Years into my 20’s I started the baking . I would make bundt cakes and sell slices. It became a hit , and honestly, I had no idea that I would be here today. Shortly after I was asked to make a birthday cake for someone special. I was super nervous, but this fast-forward is how I’m talking to you today. KateringIIyou spealize in tier cakes, single tier cakes ,cupcakes for weddings, birthday parties if you need a cake I’m the cake lady. KateringIIyou has also been awarded the best home baker in Tarrant County in 2021. I truly take pride and joy being a part of people’s special events and not personally having to be in attendance but my cakes shining thru for me.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would advise you to stay confident in your craft. You will see others doing the same craft you’re doing and can get sidetracked or discouraged quickly. But nope, you have to remember they started at a time just like you . Keep going . Also practice, practice. What I mean by that is you may not have a order but as a baker, you know one week you will be booked, and the next week u may have just one order . We’ll in mean time practice on your craft don’t stop , they say practice makes perfect. Last but not least, gratitude, you must have it. You were blessed with your skills don’t allow it to make you complacent and non humble. Appreciate others for choosing you to serve . As a baker, we know there is a Walmart, Sam’s and many large bakeries out there, but they chose you, so be grateful and show out.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
I would say being a mom of 2 as well as maintaining a full-time job. Also, it has changed within last year for me, I added to my family. Yes it’s a proud moment but man it is a challenge. Imagine a 3 month year old wanting and needing the essentials you give on top of full-filling a cake order due . Imagine that, lol. But you have to stop breathe and make it happen. Not to mention working a full-time job it calls for simply BALANCE . Once you master that, everything will fall into to place . But don’t I repeat don’t stop.
