We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sharnice Sherrod a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sharnice , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
After years of wearing a mask and living in survival mode, the process began with redefining my identity. Before I could reconcile WHAT I was born and called to do, I had to understand WHO I was born to be. I believe that it is important for everyone, especially as believers (Christians), to have a solid foundation of our identity before pursing a purpose of assignment. If not, we fall into the trap of equating or even comparing our value as a person with what we can (or cannot) do.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
It’s not a coincidence that I chose to speak about purpose in this interview. My life’s goal is to educate, equip, and empower people to produce purpose, on purpose. Through my brand, Shar the Strategist, I am a Christian life & business strategist specializing in systems development for service providers and soul care for women of faith.
I’m a native of Suffolk, Virginia, currently residing in Dallas, Texas. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with an emphasis in Public Administration and Paralegal Certification from thee Norfolk State University. I also earned my Master of Arts in Human Services Counseling at Regent University. I also obtained my certification in prophetic ministry from Cultivate University in 2022, and I plan to continue her education in the future.
Both of my degrees and my professional experience allowed me the opportunity to work with an array of business owners, organization leaders, and women of faith from all walks of life. As an innovative entrepreneur and daughter of God, I operate in both Marketplace and Ministry.
Shar The Strategist INC, is my online consulting agency, and BuildHERS Network, is my online para-ministry catered to the holistic development of Christian Women. BuildHERS Network is the home to Marketplace MinistHER Alliance, an online prayer & personal development community designed to help Christian women prosper in their soul and build the confidence to courageously carry out their commission.
I am a nurturer at heart and uniquely combines coaching, consulting, and counseling principles to serve others with a transformative solution-focused experience. I care for the soul wellness of women and have committed my life to guarding and pouring. My heart is to counsel & mentor young women on their journey to discovering their true identity as daughters of God, and to walk in wholeness, righteousness, and holiness.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Organization: For me, being organized was crucial in managing the vast amount of data and interactions I processed daily. Effective organization allowed me to prioritize tasks, streamline workflows, and ensure that I could be accurate and timely in life, business, and ministry. It also helped me to create, enforce, and maintain boundaries and structure in all walks of life.
Discipline: In my journey, discipline was essential to my consistency, reliability, and accountability. I believe it started in my childhood with a very organized and administrative grandmother, and my participation in band from 6th grade to my completion in undergrad. It involved me remaining attentive to my environment at all times. Discipline helped me develop resilience and the ability to deliver high-quality performance consistently.
Empathy: I’d say that organization and discipline without empathy is detrimental. Empathy allows me to connect with others on a deeper level, understand their needs and concerns, and provide responses that are not only accurate but also compassionate and supportive. Empathy also helped me to build self-awareness and learn how to give myself grace! In turn, I am better able to serve others because I take time to listen to myself and serve myself.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I’m overwhelmed, I implement both spiritual and mental health practices to remain (what I like to call) sober.
1 Peter 5:8 tells us to “Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour.”
Drugs and alcohol are not the only substances that can cause us to be intoxicated. Heightened levels of emotional and mental distress, can also cause chemical imbalances and cognitive dissonance. Lack of sobriety directly impacts decision making and discipline.
It is important for me to recenter myself through deep breathing, counting with my eyes closed, biblical meditation, and physical activity. It helps me to remember to be kind to myself, even in tough predicaments.
