Meet Shayla Hilton

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shayla Hilton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Shayla, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I believe purpose is a lifelong discovery that unfolds over time. The key for me has been seeking God and discovering my unique gifts and talents. I have spent years learning who God created me to be and how all of those things correlate with my personal calling and ultimate purpose.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have been working in the field of education for 16+ years in various roles. I started in the elementary school classroom, worked with teachers as a curriculum coordinator, and worked with adult learners who were learning to read. Currently, I hold the position of director of education and impact at a nonprofit organization. I am incredibly passionate about education and preparing students for a successful future. It is important for me to model my passion for education by demonstrating what it means to be a lifelong learner. Therefore, I am currently completing my doctorate in Education and Christian Leadership.

Additionally, I host a weekly podcast where people tune in from 95+ countries around the world to hear about understanding your calling and living life on purpose. The Called + Confident Podcast has 16K downloads to date. When I’m not educating, ministering, or chatting it up on the show, I coach women who are ready to understand and unlock God’s calling for their lives through my signature course, Path to Purpose Academy.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say that the three skills that have been the most impactful on my journey have been the power of research, relationships, and resources. I believe it is imperative that we research as much as possible along our journey. Whether starting a new career, furthering your education, seeking ways to improve your life etc. all of these new ventures require some initial research to set yourself up for success. Also, I have found building and fostering relationships to be a huge commodity. People are such a valuable resource because everyone brings their own unique skills and experiences to the table. Taking the time to connect, honor and value people have been a game-changer for me. Lastly, I would say be a good steward of resources has been a powerful lesson. Learning how to give, spend, save, and sow have been recurring lessons along the way that have either sped up my journey or drastically slowed me down.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
As a podcaster and a huge advocate for women, I am always looking to partner and collaborate with women who are confidently walking out their callings and fulfilling their life’s purpose. These women inspire others to be their best selves and understand that there is room for us all to shine and uplift one another.
