We were lucky to catch up with Sheila LaCivita recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheila, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My strong work ethic has its roots in the valuable lessons I learned from my military father. When I got my first job at the age of 17, he instilled in me the importance of showing up to work 15 minutes early, never missing a day of work, and to “take as much workload off of your boss’s back as possible.” I not only ensured my job security but also contributed to the overall success of the business. These early teachings have stayed with me throughout my career, shaping me into a diligent professional that would later open my own businesses.

I own my own company now, but when I was an employee, I learned that work ethic is not solely about showing up every day but also about investing the same level of dedication and care into my job as if I were the owner of the company. I quickly realized that this mindset not only earned me job security but also became the easiest route to promotion, both in terms of position and paycheck, as my commitment and loyalty consistently set me apart in the eyes of my superiors. It has also contributed to the way I successfully run my business today.

I am deeply passionate about my brand and company, 4 Corners. As a paralegal-owned business operating in the legal industry, we have tirelessly dedicated ourselves to upholding the highest standards of work ethic and professionalism. Through unwavering hard work and commitment, we have cultivated a sterling reputation for delivering top-notch quality services to trial lawyers. Our role becomes especially crucial when it comes to handling significant cases, as we are instrumental in organizing information and testimony for easy access during trial proceedings. We take immense pride in knowing that our efforts contribute to the pursuit of justice within our court system. Being an integral part of the legal process allows us to support our community’s fight for justice, and this mission is at the core of what drives our passion at 4 Corners.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most vital qualities that have propelled me in the business world are not skills I acquired in any formal educational setting. Instead, these qualities are deeply personal and intrinsic to my entrepreneurial journey. The first is drive, an unwavering determination and ambition to achieve my goals. It’s the relentless motivation that pushes me to keep going even when faced with challenges and setbacks. The second is passion, an intense love and enthusiasm for what I do. This inner fire fuels my creativity, innovation, and commitment, making my work not just a job but a labor of love. Lastly, there’s the power of self-belief, which encompasses confidence, manifestation, and the ability to envision success. Believing in oneself is the cornerstone of any successful endeavor; it’s the unwavering faith that I can overcome obstacles and achieve my dreams. Manifestation and envisioning success help me set clear goals and visualize the path to achieving them, creating a roadmap for my journey in the business world. These three qualities together have been my guiding lights, shaping my entrepreneurial spirit and propelling me forward on the path to success.
