Meet Sheri Vela

We recently connected with Sheri Vela and have shared our conversation below.

Sheri, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
Over time and after meeting various types of individuals in my life; I have learned that humanity and compassion are necessary to be successful. I don’t necessarily feel that I’m generous but I have empathy and compassion towards humanity that may resemble generosity. I’ve had my fair share of struggles in life and watched others struggle. I’ve made poor, hard, and good choices as many of us do. These combinations of choices & experiences have molded me into the person that I am today. Growing up, my family were wonderful role models. My grandfather would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need and didn’t expect anything in return. My family has helped with charitable events that help low-income families in need. My partner is also a charitable woman who has literally given her shoes to a person in need and came home barefoot. I believe I have surrounded myself with compassionate and caring people who make my life rich through their actions and I greatly appreciate having each one in my life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As of the moment I’m involved in the following: High School Art Educator, Del Rio Main Street Program President, assisting local individuals with networking to help with their needs, hosting CanvaZ & CocktailZ painting classes, freelance media design, Brujas R us essential oil blends who suffer with anxiety, pain, and other elements, & finally I’m currently waiting on a logo trademark to establish a jeep themed business that I hope to become successful. I know it seems a bit much, but it’s what I enjoy.
I’m excited to help others and share positive experiences. Making positive change is good for those who don’t envision different points of view. I look forward to what the future has in store.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three main things that helped me to get to where I am today for my family, my education, and the drive I have inside of me. The advice that I can give you is you’re never too old to learn. If you feel like you know everything then you are already behind. The world is always changing and so are its ways. Embrace change and be a leader in a positive way. Always lead by example never be a dictator. Always love what you do in order for it to be great. I know people say fake it till you make it, however, there’s a point where you’re going to get caught so always be authentic and genuine.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents David & Eloisa have done so much for me. I’ve been taught to work for what I want. They have shown me different cultures and experiences by traveling. As an only child, my parents & I traveled to different locations during the summer & we were always trying new exciting experiences. This has motivated my partner Christina & me to travel and experience the world. I believe that everyone should travel to experience the world around us and to appreciate the life we have. Live life to the fullest.
