Meet Shindreia Chase

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shindreia Chase. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shindreia below.

Shindreia, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Keeping creativity alive is the process of relearning myself and introducing the new versions of me to my past. It requires an effort of some sort once I have noticed that creativity has left.

I will be honest and admit that sometimes I just have to let it die, with hopes that it will reincarnate in congruency with my goals and life at the moment. My key to welcoming the reincarnation of creativity is love and patience for self. As a healing and recovering people pleaser, and often victim to societal induced imposter syndrome, my streak of creativity and push were pummeled by other people thoughts and feelings. My creativity and keeping it alive requires me to feed myself positive reinforcers, whether that listening to my favorite mood curated playlists, creating art in my photography, or creating conversation with those who inspire and understand me. Then there are the times where I have no clue on how to welcome that new creative energy. So together we just frolic through life and let things flow. Which I am very happy to say that I have leaned more into that energy, it is such a healing practice for my confidence and creativity. I truly believe the life presents the topic for my new chapter, I just have to learn to submit.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hi I am Shindreia Chase, however in the birth worker world, they call me ShinDoula! I provide various doula care throughout the DMV and virtually. I also do birth and newborn photography alongside other kinds of shoots. Bringing both passions together has been such an invigorating experience. It allows me to beautifully show moms and their partners all of the precious moments they’ve endured as a unit, and also those taking the journey solo. Mpenzi Tundae is a brand that caters to holistic lifestyle and building community. Mpenzi Tundae offers many workshops and resources to the community, One of the continual works being Black Mamas Meets, which is a support group for black mamas in all stages of motherhood started by ShinDoula.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Hmm that’s tough. I would say vulnerability, honesty and commitment to self.

My advice: do what keeps you happy, live the dream. Life only happens once, maybe twice if you’re lucky!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am looking for creatives and other birth workers! I believe we all have something to offer to one another, and that’s such a powerful and great thing about community! So really anyone that’s looking to connect and has something they are passionate about. You can find me on instagram – mpenzitundaedoulacare or email [email protected]
