We recently connected with Shuyi Qiu and have shared our conversation below.
Shuyi, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Listening has been an effective way to gain confidence and develop my self-esteem. Opinion is a two-sided tool. Even if the opinion itself is objective, sometimes, because it is too explicit, many people will choose to avoid its acceptance. External voices, as well as internal self-reflection, are a way to improve yourself. Introspection is not only a reflection but also an affirmation of self-worth. For example, when a project or work is completed, it is published on social software or given feedback by customer service and teammates. Although sometimes very direct, it is the most accurate.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am Shuyi Qiu, a motion graphic and unreal artist.
As an artist passionate about color, shape, and motion, I have always been captivated by the visual world. My journey started with graphic design, where I learned the principles of balancing color, composition, and capturing the audience’s attention. Over time, I discovered a more profound interest in the 3D world, where I could bring my ideas to life with greater depth and dimension.
With a strong foundation in graphic design, I could transition seamlessly into the 3D world and explore my creative vision in new and exciting ways. My work is characterized by integrating vibrant colors, dynamic movements, and innovative use of form and space.
Through my designs, I strive to create immersive experiences that engage the audience and bring brands to life. The principles of composition and color that I learned in my early years as a graphic designer continue to inform and influence my work, giving me a unique perspective and approach to 3D design.
As an artist, I am constantly seeking new ways to push the boundaries of my medium, exploring new techniques and technologies that enable me to realize my imaginative vision. Whether designing a digital environment, modeling a complex structure, or texturing a surface, I am always guided by my love of color, shape, motion and my unwavering commitment to capturing the audience’s imagination.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Passion, graphic principles, and searching are the three words that I would put in the first place.
Passion is the foundation of inspiration. When you’re passionate about your work, any challenge becomes a stepping stone to becoming who you are. As an artist, the second most important thing is the basic skills in graphic design. The basic principles of graphic design are the foundation of my work, whether it is a brand design, dynamic images, 3D, 2D, or other related projects and works. The accumulation of inspiration is a critical factor in self-improvement. Accumulation for me is Searching. Whether it is photography, animation, illustration, film, or even dance, any fragment of life can be an accumulation of your material or a source of inspiration. For folks just starting, go out to see more, not limited to the small space of the bedroom; sometimes, even a person going out is a good choice. Be firm and clear about your primary goal, and move forward.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
For most Asian families, my parents are not traditional Chinese parents. They gave me enough personal space early on to decide my path. All this is very valuable. From a very young age, they encouraged me to participate in various activities, so I didn’t have any fear of socializing, which also helped me develop the ability to listen and analyze.
