Meet Sidney Allen

We recently connected with Sidney Allen and have shared our conversation below.

Sidney , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Working with a therapist has helped me along my journey to building my self-esteem. I struggle with perfectionism with a critical voice in my head. To combat this my therapist suggested that I make art with the specific purpose of practicing being “OK” with it. No revisions, no criticism, creating for myself only, just making. I started painting simple florals with coffee, tea, and wine. Painting with that mindset I enjoyed a feeling of freedom and simple creativity. I felt that others would enjoy this as well. In my painting classes, I promote creativity despite that nagging voice in many of our heads. I hope that spreads the fun of creating art with those who may be detached from their creative self.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I paint floral artworks with coffee, Thai tea, and red wine. Using these techniques and a compassionate lens I guide participants in a paint and sip class experience. I host workshops at Fort Worth local venues and private parties at the homes of clients.

Leading painting workshops with adult learners is a special experience for me. Seeing the creativity of each participant bloom through the techniques and guidance that I provide is refreshing to my spirit. I feel special being able to ignite the creativity of my participants and encourage them through the creative process. I send participants home with a brush and drinks to paint with so that they can continue to paint after the workshop. People often send me pictures of their artworks made after the workshop. That makes me happy.

If you are interested in hosting a private paint party at your venue message me on Instagram (@drinkingpaints) or email me ([email protected]). If you are looking to join a public painting workshop you can see the upcoming events in my Instagram links.

I’ve opened a web store on Redbubble where you can order my artwork printed on a variety of cool things like stickers, t-shirts, magnets, journals, and more. I’ve featured some of my coffee, tea, and wine art as well as some of my digital artworks.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my experience starting to host paint parties and selling my art at art fairs there are three skills that I think were most impactful on my journey: 1. Art skills: Creating in a variety of mediums and honing my skills and aesthetic
2. Teaching skills: The ability to guide others through my process
3. Business skills: Networking, communication, marketing, and event planning/execution

For those looking to follow a similar path with their art, I suggest searching for what you are innately best at and developing those skills more and more. Go hard on what you are good at and see what you can make of those unique skills and talents.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I have a great idea! I’d love to collaborate with a wine cellar and a coffee shop to host paint-and-sip classes with a flight of their products.

Imagine going for a wine tasting and getting to create lovely artwork with those drinks! It would enrich the experience for the customers and showcase the uniqueness of each of the wines on the flight. The model also works great for a coffee or tea shop!

If you are a coffee shop or wine cellar that is looking to host a paint party with your products please email me at [email protected]
