Meet Simply Vika

We were lucky to catch up with Simply Vika recently and have shared our conversation below.

Simply , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
This is an interesting question. I feel like my confidence is not the same in all areas in my life. I’m generally a very confident person. If someone will try to tell me that I, for example, look ugly, or I’m not smart, or that my photography sucks, I will just ignore it since I know it’s not true. But when it comes to my music, it’s like something switches. I guess I always felt a little more vulnerable it relation to my music because it means the world to me and comes from my heart.

I remember the first mean comment I got. Someone said I got no talent. My heart broke. My day was ruined. I was so upset and hurt.
The second time it hurt the same, third was unpleasant.
But with time I realized that it means nothing. These people who troll others but have absolutely nothing to offer the world, these opinions I care about? NO
Then there’s another problem. People who don’t want to hurt you, they just genuinely don’t like your music. It was painful too in the beginning. I wanted to be loved by everybody. A sweet dream to have right? NO

It took me a little time, but I got used to the fact that not everybody will like what I have to offer, and that’s okay. I stopped trying to aim at everyone and accepted the fact that my style is very unique and absolutely not for everyone. But the most important thing is that I’m doing what I believe in, and what I think is best.

It takes a lot of work on yourself to get there. But with time it just happens.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Right now is a very exciting time for me! I finally found a way to combine my music and poetry with my other art – photography! I was thinking about how to combine those for a long time. Last year I published a poetry book that’s called “My Poetic Travels” and added there photos that I took during my time in Georgia (the country) which is available for purchase through my website.

But recently I came up with an idea for an art show. I can’t say too much yet because it’s in progress still, but I can say that it involves music, videos and photos that will be presented in a gallery in New York City. The topic is “Body Image Through Color” and it revolves around how we see ourselves in our bodies, the good and the bad.
The reason I’m doing this is because I always fight for equality and empowerment, and how can we talk about this topic without mentioning body image and social norms? We live in a very demanding society and so many of us are constantly exposed to “fake” social media that makes us feel like crap about ourselves. I fall for that too, and it needs to stop. So I decided to do something about it!
It’s going to be an amazing exhibit, so if you’re in New York, make sure you catch that!

At the same time I’m working on new music. I decided to shift my style a little bit and now moving towards Rap and Electronica/EDM. I love these genres and I feel like both me and my producer are very excited for this new direction!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The 3 most important things will be: – Work Ethic and Consistency. Don’t stop if it doesn’t work. Shift, change, try a different thing but don’t stop, don’t quit. Even when you feel like taking a break, take it, but then go back to being productive. There’s so much to do all the time, and everything you do will take you forward even if you don’t see it at the moment.
– Support. Have someone out there, that will keep pushing you and believing in you. There will be moments that you will want to give up (trust me, I know), so it’s important that someone will remind you how amazing you are and that everything will be okay!
– Optimism! You gotta have that! Believe Believe Believe! In yourself, in what you do, in your powers to make it happen!

And keep learning! You can never stop working on self development.

Good luck!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I actually am looking to collaborate with new people!

I’m looking for female producers (if you’re in NYC it’s amazing). I want to work with another woman to create powerful stuff and maybe even perform together!

I’m looking for rappers and singers that are creating something similar and have a similar fan base, so we can create together and expand.

I’m looking for team members (manager, booking agent and PR person), it’s hard to do everything myself. I’m good at creating art, but sales is not my strongest suit.

Generally, I’m looking for people who want to do amazing things and go far with it! I’m open to suggestions, but I am looking for someone who’s somewhat established. Not talking about number of followers and streams, rather just the material they released so I can see they are serious about what they do and not just starting out.
