Meet Sinéad D’arcy

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sinéad D’arcy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Sinéad, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
Throughout my life, I’ve struggled with people pleasing. The definition is a person who consistently strives to please others, often sacrificing their own wants or needs in the process. This was me. I cared so deeply of how others perceived me. One day, I woke up and decided I was done. My contract with people pleasing was now null and void. And not only that, but I decided I was gonna go totally and completely against that. I said to myself “That’s how I’m gonna break it.” I was going through a heavy heart break. So, then I asked myself…”how do I go against my people pleasing? By being honest with myself”. So I started to write down my deepest honest thoughts about my heart break. No matter how I thought they’d be perceived. These thoughts turned into poetry and poetry turned into music. I shocked myself by how truthful I was able to be using songwriting as a tool. I had never written music before and here I was writing song after song after song. I wrote a whole album. This process became therapeutic. Music therapy. I faced my fear, took a risk, and now created a safe haven for my own self expression. That’s when I take one step further. Risking it all. By sharing it with others. I started sharing my music with my family, friends, and then fellow professions. First, I cringed at the thought of how they may perceive me and my music. Will they laugh? Will they hate it? And to my surprise…everyone loved it. The response I received most was that it was beautiful. Especially, because it was apparent that it was my heart and my soul laid out to bare. I wasn’t holding back. I was risking it all. The moment I finally let go of trying to be who I thought everyone wanted me to be and became who I am…I was praised. And the funny thing is, though it felt good…At that point, I didn’t need the approval of others anymore. Because I had finally embraced, loved and accepted myself.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I turned the music I wrote to heal into a piece of artwork that I can’t wait to share with the world. My album entitled Dear Diary. Which, I will be performing as a one woman show. There will be poetry, music and dance. All performed by me live on stage. And the album available for download. I wrote this during a heartbreak but that isn’t what this show is about. It’s about the 5 stages of grief that we go through as individuals throughout our lives. After a heartbreak, death, or any kind of loss. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. As an audience member I want you to sit and experience those stages and experience the healing that I did writing them. My mission statement is to have everyone who listens feel and heal. My music doesn’t fit into one genre. There’s jazz, rock, pop, rap, EDM, country and gospel. If you can believe it. I am now in the process of filming my first music video for one of the songs from Dear Diary. Entitled “Do You Think About Me”. Coming soon on my YouTube channel Darcy’s Diary. You can donate to my Go Fund Me to help support this show getting on a stage near you!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Don’t try, do. Don’t think, feel. Pour your heart out now and put it together later.

I tried writing music in the past. Many times and couldn’t ever finish more than a few lines. First thing I realized, I was trying too hard. Trying to be perfect. And perfectionism kills creativity. When the music started to flow out of me. It was was when I stopped trying and just wrote.

Second, don’t overthink it. The technicalities of writing aren’t as important as getting your spirit onto that page is. That’s what makes a great song. Something with heart. Something’s that’s real.

Lastly, don’t be afraid! Just let it all hang out. Embrace and give yourself the space to truly express yourself. You can put together the song structure later. It’s not going anywhere!

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I had all these songs but didn’t know a thing about making music. That’s when I met my producer Caesar Garcia at Innersunshine Media. I pitched him my passion project Dear Diary. And because he believed in me and my vision…we now have 15 songs that we’ve brought to life together. He has spent countless hours making my dream a reality. And, not only that, but he taught me every single step in the music making process. Through it all, he’s continued to encourage and uplift me. We put our heart and souls into this music. And I know I speak for both of us when I say we can’t wait to share it. I’d also like to say a special thanks to Andrew Shepherd my co producer for my music video “Do You Think About Me.” Who called in every favor to make sure I had the best musicians on my album. Phenomenal artists like Johnny Nasty Boots, Oscar Burgos, Johnny Majestic, and Sophie Kaiser. I am beyond grateful for the love and support of those around me.
