Meet Skip Reeves

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Skip Reeves. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Skip , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Due to the racial climate my Father was forced to deal with as young man, He raised his children in a way so as to develop self esteem and respect. I saw my Father when I was very young defend and protect his family. It leaves a deep impression when you see your Father come to your aid with Mother Bear instincts. As a result, I grew up very secure as to who I was. I was not afraid to stand out and be different. Us children always knew he had our backs!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
The thing most surprising that people find out about me is the eclectic taste I have in music. I have a radio show called A Funk Above The Rest, and my moniker is Skip The Funktologist. But I support more than just Funk Music and Artists on my shows. My TV shows especially expose a full range of artists and their various styles. I like music with good vibes, tastes, and content.

I currently host an internationally syndicated radio, two tv shows, and am a Music Supervisor for the Film Production company Our Movie Club.

I’m proud of the fact that I had an idea that has become known around the world. I was told that my concepts would never work. I never let ANYONE discourage me or get in the way of my goals. I have always been a self-motivator!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Well, I took learning seriously. I did not take school lightly. I love reading so it made it easy to research, study, and ask millions of questions to whomever had answers. I also did not allow setbacks to hold me down.

My best advice is to figure out asap who you are, what you want to be, have determination to see it through, and treat people the way you want to be treated. Yes there are a lot of unscrupulous characters out there, but move around them.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents were very supportive of my musical inclinations. My Mother was a piano and trumpet player. My Father had a good singing voice. Music flowed freely and plentifully in our house. One of the bands a played with as a teen badly needed some equipment. My Father signed for us to get everything we needed. That act of support on his part allowed the band to really progress!
