We recently connected with Skye Amber Sweet and have shared our conversation below.
Skye Amber, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Optimism is a beautiful and also scary word. Although it comes in the form of a positive note, optimism can fall short in many ways if things; we as humans do not obtain. I find optimism without always acknowledging it, comes from survival in my own life. As a young child, things seemed to always work out even in the chaos of an abusive family. I believe that in my youth there was no other way but to dream things would be better or okay one day. As a teenager, I decided that I would be optimistic about the challenge of leaving an abusive home and setting out to find my own life and challenges that I could overcome in a positive light. I find that courage, not cunning got me everywhere I needed to be at that time I needed it. I am a dreamer, a life seeker, and one who is very optimistic greatly from the fact that without it, life could be sad and a trap. We need to believe in the higher vibrations of life and that with our own courage, we can get anywhere we want to be, I always know there is light out of darkness and my art portrays that mostly with my trees and koi fish.
I see the future only as eyes
Hope-seeking; sight
Walking in the direction
Coping in flight
I see only a lesser shadow out of the dark
Life is beautiful
If only a spark
I believe, I see

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Skye Amber Sweet. I am a muralist, canvas manipulator, poet, production scenic, sculptor, and prop maker. I am mostly a loving mother, friend, and mentor. My company Skyepoet started out as a clothing brand called Mascara. Throughout the years my experiences changed and with change came the morphing of an artist. I started out later in 2007 dabbling in art. nostalgia from being a child courageously and curiously sharing the insides of my heart onto paper. In 2013 I painted my first painting that sold and continued to paint freely. Without thought, emotional art made its journey into many collectors’ homes and restaurants. I became a full-time artist in 2014 and a muralist in 2015. From there on my art was rented and made for production companies in the film industry. The journey never stopped and currently, I make props, sculpt, and design art installations for restaurants, am a lead scenic in my field, and still, an amazing loving mother.
My Company employs many artists and creatives throughout the year and offers services from Murals, Props, Canvas Art, Illustrated Books, Handy-work, Scenic work, Cabinet Finishing, Resin Work, and Restaurant Design. I am so grateful and excited about my past and the current time and future. I am constantly learning and opening the scope of work I offer to my clients. 2024 will be a year of dreams and beauty in my career and i hope to share it with many others who love what they do the way I do.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Communication Pride and Passion
Without communication, I would not be able to find, keep, or share contacts and clients. I am overly communicative and I find that people trust me more because I am open, responsive, and communicate changes and or ideas. I am very attentive and also in the way of being able to find solutions just by asking questions. I am not fearful, I was born fearless. In the art industry, I believe that is one of the reasons I have made it this far although still far behind.
Without pride, I would not deliver good work. I am proud of every job I do whether it is boring or a creative fun art piece. I think being proud without being obnoxious is good. To take pride in anything is a positive and it means you care. I care. I care a lot and am a share-bear. The more we share the more we care.
Without passion, I would not be here. Passion drives me and makes me a believer in everything is possible scenario. I believe in my work and there for it is. I am passionate also about being passionate. It is a true make-up of who I am. I see beauty and opportunity in everything.
I believe that it is important to offer nice work, products, and services. However, if you do not communicate or take pride in your work, then it becomes solely about money. I could trade the money to have the passion. I absolutely love what I do and I think it shows. I have had a ton of haters in Los Angeles based on my communication, pride, and passion. If you are doing something right, people say you are doing it wrong.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Currently, I am looking to open my own Scenic and Production Shop. Truly I would love to do it with four of my friends. I am looking for investors also, to help me do so. There are a few key creatives that I really trust and have been throwing around the idea, but an idea is only an idea until it is not. I intend to take my passion and love for making things and turn it into a space and business that can reach another level. I would really love to be able to hire more people and give opportunities to so many talented people I know. I would love to have a team that is built on integrity, love, creativity, and passion. There are so many shops in Los Angeles that do not appreciate their team, what they build, or how many people help them maintain their own dreams. It is clear to me that the only way to help is to do it myself with talented friends to balance our space out. You take like-minded people and put them in a room with different skills and you build an empire. I intend to build a generous, happy atmosphere that is not only fair but fun. Respect comes in many ways.
