Meet Sonia Emore

We were lucky to catch up with Sonia Emore recently and have shared our conversation below.

Sonia, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I don’t necessarily think I found my purpose; I believe my purpose has always been a part of my life. Overtime, it’s been revealed to me by the one who created it, God! I’ve always had a passion for music and helping children. So, I figured that’s what I was meant to do with my life, but there was so much more to the story. During my journey of seeking God, I started to see that my love for music, and using the arts to express myself was not just meant for me, it was to help others as well.

My purpose is continuously being revealed to me. But as of now, I know it’s meant for me to help others experience emotional freedom through the arts.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m 33 years old, born and raised on the south side of Chicago, IL. I come from a huge West African family, half Liberian, and the other half Nigerian. I moved to Atlanta, GA at the age of 18 to pursue my dream of being a singer/songwriter but God had other plans. In 2017 I founded my company A Time to Create, LLC. We guide and teach the youth how to acknowledge, identify and express their feelings and emotions through the beautiful art of songwriting.

One of the amazing things about my company (which is a part of my purpose) is that it inspires the youth to view their emotions in a positive way and encourages them to freely express themselves, while providing them with a safe space to do so. I’m so excited about all the lives that will experience emotional freedom and learn how to deal with their emotions in a healthy way.

My mission is to help as many kids as possible manage their feelings and emotions in a healthy way while they’re young, in the hopes that they’ll use these tools in their adult lives and pass it on to the generations to come. I’m currently raising funds to complete the development of The Songwriting App For Kids which will help provide children with a safe space to creatively express themselves. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are passion, wisdom, and endurance. I chose passion because the things I’m passionate about bring me so much joy and I’m able to do it effortlessly with or without compensation. Wisdom is a great quality to have as well, but you actually have to seek after it. Having wisdom prevents you from making mistakes that will hurt you or others. It also helps you to make beneficial decisions. Endurance is a great quality to have also. In your journey of life, you’ll come across setbacks and hardships. Having endurance will keep you going towards the finish line when those setbacks and hardships try to take you off course.

To develop or improve these qualities you must make a conscious effort to put in the hard work. Keep your passion alive, don’t forget the love you have for whatever you’re doing. Seek wisdom from individuals or mentors in your field, read articles, and pray for guidance. Keep pushing towards the end goal and don’t give up. It’s ok to slow down and take breaks if needed, but don’t give up!

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

When it comes to overcoming challenges or even building the essential skills, qualities, or knowledge needed to be successful I can’t think of one particular person. I have a great network consisting of my friends, family, and church family that continuously support me. I’m truly blessed.
