We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sophia Mateo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sophia below.
Hi Sophia, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I think exploring your own identity and learning what you like and what you are passionate about besides modeling helps. It is also important to establish your self-worth outside the modeling industry, it isn’t about just having a pretty face.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My journey of being a model started in middle school. I have always had an interest in fashion and then an opportunity arose where I could be a model and it wasn’t something that I had considered until then. From that point on I was invested in it. During the lockdown in 2020, I came across some online classes with Prestige Talent, where I could learn and practice skills that would help me further my career. From there I have gotten a manger and agents that help secure different modeling gigs in other areas of the country. I also try to stay active locally, where I don’t currently live in LA or New York and I am still attending high school.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think believing in yourself is really important. When you believe in yourself, motivation comes from that. Getting in contact with the right people is important to help get you started. Training and practice are also a recipe for success, in any career.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I would say my parents get that award because I couldn’t have done anything thus far without them. They travel with me to different places and are always supportive. They have always been the backbone of my successes.
