We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful SoSo Juicy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with SoSo below.
SoSo, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
When I was younger, I got picked on by other students, talked about by people I called friends, my closest friends would switch on me because of he say she say. I say all of this because that molded me to not care so much about what people had to say about me and continue to be me. Regardless, people are going to talk about you, bring you down and make you feel less of yourself but you can’t give a F$%K. So now, anytime I walk in a room I keep my head held high and chest poked out to show people I don’t care about your opinion, Im going to be me 110% of the time. The people that care about you and have your best interest won’t treat you in such manner, only haters and jealous people do. Anytime someone has something negative to say I don’t entertain it because they want a reaction and I won’t give it to them. I know what Im doing in this moment is making them upset so I keep doing what I do best, me. I will continue to love me, my flaws and all, whether they accept me or not. I know God, my family and I love me and that’s all the matters.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am an Artist, I make music and I help other artist and people interested in the music industry learn about the business through educational courses and youtube. Ive been making music for about 5 years now and Ive been developing my courses for 3 years now and It’s only getting bigger from here. The special thing about my music is my sound and my delivery. I don’t try to compare myself to other artist cause I want to create my own lane and become a new wave. As far as my courses, The Juice, I want to change the mindset of the average artist today and help them understand the ins and outs of this business. It’s a very lucrative business and it’s the top industry in the world besides taxes. Everybody needs entertainment and African Americans are the main face of entertainment; we have to protect our craft and our art.
I recently just dropped a new single called “Gon’ Head” it’s inspired by Gucci Mane’s song “Go Head” and I just released it 10/03/2023 and I also have a new episode coming up for The Juice and courses are in development so stay tuned. Cant wait to show the world what I’ve been working on. New music videos, more content, more music and more of me will be coming soon to a platform near you!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The top three qualities, skills and areas of knowledge that have impacted my career are my communication skills, networking and marketing. These three have been the most impactful in my journey because they help me elevate my career more and more each day. When it comes to communication and networking, that has been my biggest asset because anywhere I go I can make a new friend or fan. I use my personality to get people to like my music and what I do and people normally gravitate towards me. I developed my marketing because I was a social media manager for a marketing firm and that helped me navigate through social media and understand analytics, which is detrimental to the industry today. Especially, with the way technology is evolving. You NEED social media to thrive in a business.
I advice all musical artist to learn about the music business before signing anything or have a lawyer present, always be you 110% of the time and promote yourself like a business. You are a brand so treat it as such. The way to improve your skills is going out to more networking events, not the club but actual events for the music industry. Socialize with people you normally wouldn’t talk to cause you never know who you’ll meet. Be open to new ideas, be optimistic and be determined. If you aren’t tech savvy, look at your favorite influencers instagram or look on youtube for marketing tips and tricks.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The number one obstacle Im facing right now is building a solid team to help with my promotion and marketing. I know I have marketing skills but it’s only so much I can do for myself. To overcome this challenge Im going out to more networking events to find others on the same path as me who can help me on my journey. Im focused on finding a manager and a publicist to help me take all the weight off my shoulders. This is a one man band and I can’t keep playing by myself, I need a bigger sound. And when you have more people behind you, you have a different drive and motivation to yourself because you know these people are depending on you to make it happen.
