Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stacie Wyatt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Stacie, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism has been a quality that I have grown over time and continue to bring into my life everyday. For many years, I lived with fear and negativity which greatly impacted the quality of my life. At that time, I had no idea that my attitude was a direct link to my lack of happiness and lack of success. By choosing an outlook of optimism, I believe I have created a life where I feel completely fulfilled in all areas of my life and celebrate each day and what it offers. When we lack optimism and see the world as a place with limitations, it is often that our own life experience mirrors that viewpoint or mindset. Instead, I choose to see the potential good in everything, including the challenges that we all face. Optimism definitely comes from a deliberate choice.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an adaptive and traditional Yoga teacher who brings Yoga and Mindfulness into over 50 assisted living settings for adults living with dementia, traumatic brain injuries and other neurological conditions. I believe that it is my life purpose to share the gift of Yoga with anyone who is willing to say yes. In addition to raising a family and being an advocate for those with disabilities, I am also the founder of Embracing Spirit Yoga which specializes in bringing adaptive Yoga into community centers and rehabilitation clinics. Bringing my depth of compassion to the mat–or the chair–I offer students the opportunity to grow as an individual in all aspects of their life. I am an experienced 500 hour Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance, Certified Brain Injury Specialist, Certified Trauma Informed Coach, Life Wellness Coach, Senior YogaFit Instructor, Mind/Body Personal trainer, Stress Reduction and Meditation Instructor, Pilates Instructor, and Barre Instructor. I lovingly and proudly bring my personal life experiences of raising a daughter with a disability and over 12 years working in special education to my Yoga classes with the intent to inspire and motivate people to live their best life.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One of the greatest qualities I encourage others to cultivate within themselves is to step into being your unique and authentic self. Comparing ourselves to others is the quickest way to perceive ourselves as a failure which can lead to not being our true selves and doing this denies our own unique gifts where we may fail to feel comfortable sharing with others in an effort to fit in or compete with others. Living inauthentically can lead to a life of dissatisfaction. Learning to love ourselves leads us to eliminate comparison which then leads to living each day as our best and most truest self.
Another quality that I possess that has been very impactful in my life is my diligence to complete what I set out to do without expecting anyone to step in and do the work for me. I create my destiny and I am in complete control of what I think or feel about any situation, even the challenging ones. My diligence has served me well and my hard work has proven to myself that I can succeed in my personal and professional life.
Finally, one of the most impactful qualities that I have is demonstrating a deeply compassionate heart and delivering my message from the place of service to others. Before any financial gain, I look to give myself through wisdom and heartfelt connection in my classes and interactions. The beautiful benefit of this mindset is that I usually learn so much from my students that I can then share with the world, which in a roundabout way makes their lives and message become the teacher. When the financial gain and ego is removed greatness is possible. I believe so much in this that my personal and professional manifesto is–“May I always be guided to live a life of service that benefits humanity and the quality of my own spiritual journey.”
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
One of the biggest challenges I currently face is having enough hours in the day to reach all of my facilities and students. If I had a magic wand I would increase the weeks to include more days so that I could serve more people. Realizing that is simply not possible, I am actively seeking Yoga teachers, mental heath workers, occupational therapists and other people in similar fields to link arms with me and consider mentoring under me to learn my method and how they could also share this style of Yoga in their own community, or if in my area eventually take over some of my existing community classes. By doing this, more people could be reached and communities anywhere could be served.
