Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Star Martin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Star , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I have gotten my resilience from both of my parents. They were born and raised on the Caribbean island of St.Kitts then migrated to St.Thomas, Virgin Islands where i was born and raised. I watched them work hard every single day to give me and my brothers a better life and i thank them tremendously for that. Their resilience made me look at everything on a more broader spectrum.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Star Martin. A International recording artist from the island of St.Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. I have been performing since the age of 7. My love for music is deeply rooted through my family as well. I remember singing with my grandfather while he played his harmonica and tap danced. I have been giving many amazing opportunities to show my talents through local shows and concerts then wanted to expand and decided to pursue my dreams by relocating. I have competed in Hal Jackson’s Talented teen winning best talent category and have even graced the broadway stage for “The Lion King”. Since then I have been touring throughout the Caribbean and United States opening for the regions superstars or being the main act. I am very excited for what’s to come as I am currently in the works of completing my album!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities would be
Self Reflection
Positivity
Gratitude
My advice to anyone starting their journey in music is to always stay dedicated, consistent and most importantly grateful. Never second guess yourself just go for it!
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest area of growth which I am still currently working on is stop trying to always be perfect! In the past being a perfectionist definitely held me back in certain ways. I am more relaxed and confident in regards to what the outcome of things will be. Once I stopped worrying about being perfect I became even better in my artistry.
