We were lucky to catch up with Stephanee Santamaria recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanee, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I feel like it’s something you can’t overcome, but you work on it, and I think the key is to give yourself the credit you deserve and recognize how hard we work and that if opportunities come to us it’s because we’re ready to take them. To be honest, we are our strongest critics, and sometimes it is difficult to learn to be a little sweeter and softer with ourselves, because we do deserve them and we know the effort and love we put into our things.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a fashion stylist, I work in the music industry, My work is based on being in charge of the image of an artist, models, extras, etc., everything that has to do with the visual, I feel that the most exciting thing about doing what I do is that it always feels like something new, and an adventure because each project and each person is totally different, I am crazy about fashion, it is something that I really like since I can remember, one of my goals is to become the creative director of a huge brand and also have my own brand, At this moment I am looking to extend my business and take it to the west coast, Los Angeles to be specific and to be able to have people who work with me and thus be able to create a super nice experience for those who work alongside me and want to enter this world that can be a a little crazy and stressful, but at the end it’s very comforting to see your work out there, on banners, magazines or music videos, or even on red carpets
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I feel that one of the most important skills you have to learn and have, is to be punctual, and respectful of time, both, your time and people time, no one likes to waste time, and I feel that time is always vital for these projects, also being responsible and knowing how to manage your tasks, being constant matters a lot because consistency takes you to many places, even if you don’t have a project coming up it is necessary to always do a reserch of what is new or simply practice, to be able to find your unique line and the personal touch in everything you do, that would be my advice.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
I think the most impactful thing that my parents have done for me is to let me be free in terms of what I want to do. I studied architecture and then I went to Paris with a dream and suddenly everything changed and I decided to look for my home and my dreams elsewhere. side of the world, and knowing that it was such a difficult decision, leaving everything behind, and starting from scratch and having my parents support was what drove me the most and gave me strength to do what I do today, having that support that no matter Whether I achieve it or not, they are there covering my back and supporting me, that for me is priceless and it is something that I value a lot
