We were lucky to catch up with Susan Brochin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Susan, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
This goes back a while. There is a part of me who just was confident. Many of us are reluctant to show our truest and deepest self to those we are close to and in a way, I think that it is somewhat easier to show confidence to those we do not know. In my case, for over thirty years I was a classroom teacher in a public school. That is an occupation where one is seen every single day. Because I was working with students between 3rd grade and middle school, the audience was one that was required to be there. Because I feel strongly about giving students my best, self esteem and confidence simple came naturally. There are few occupations in which one is seen every day. Some students we touch deeply and others there is not as much resonance. It came with the territory. Having a strong teacher archetype, I am now involved still in teaching but to those I do not see in person.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
After teaching in public schools for almost four decades, I was not ready to stop helping others. That said, since retirement in 2014 my motto has been “what’s next?” I started that search right away and was open to what would come. Having been in education since the mid 1970s, helping others was a part of my DNA. But what would this new chapter entail. I was on a search and at the same time, I wanted the next steps to come organically and synchronistically. That said, several things happened. First, almost right away, I became aware of The Akashic Record . I jumped right in and have been learning more and helping others work with them as well. One of the courses developed was “How to Read the Akashic Records ” Then, there was the Divine Feminine or the studies of the Goddess. I created a year long course with twelve different focuses on the importance of knowing them. Currently, I run a very active Facebook page called “Meet the Goddess” It came unexpectedly and has grown to over 100 followers. I also do readings for others focusing on spiritual development and understanding how life unfolds. Most recently, I have partnered up with a friend to create events and classes on many different spiritual growth topics. At the moment we are in the brainstorming phase. One of my projects/dreams is to create a big picture class all about navigating the spiritual path. This class will have dedicated talks on many topics. Thus far, here are a few: How to Read the Akashic Records , basic astrology, numerology, exploring one’s past lives for healing, how to create altars, how to work with the Divine Feminine and more.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Be real and authentic and show kindness to others. 2. Study that which you are drawn to -and be open to what comes to you unexpectedly.
3. Be on your own journey and along the way, be a role model of love, courage, and compassion for others.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
First of all… I am here to serve, here to help others be a shining light in uncertain times. Trust what comes even if it is in an unexpected ways. Keep learning no matter what. That last one has been a touchstone for me all of my life as I have been a serious reader looking for role models in book and stories. Know that we are all on a journey to become more even if we do not know it.
Since the question is all about challenges, one of my biggest ones is being seen. As an ambivert (part extrovert and part introvert), I love being out there but only if it is comfy and safe. I feel that we all have gifts and when the gifts become the main thing that I give to others, ego seems to melt away. I am not good at promotion or PR and yet the right people come. Once I know what the potential of a new skill is and that indeed it works, I have an invisible megaphone and want to shout it from the rooftop.
Meditation and yoga are my touchstones to having a balanced life. I was part of a spiritual group that meditated twice a day in a certain way. When I realized that I couldn’t do exactly what others in that group did, I left to build my own way. When one believes in themselves in the most authentic way and are led by something bigger than themselves that is the secret sauce.
