Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to T. Ka$h. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
T., we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I started to search for my purpose at the age of 16. I wanted to do something unique with my life. As I got older, I started to see my purpose in not only music, but life as well. When I first performed on stage, it all came together. I learned that what I saw in myself could come true.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is T. Ka$h. I’m a rapper born and raised in San Diego. I’m a part of PB Records, a label also based out of San Diego. I didn’t start writing raps until Sophomore year of high school. I didn’t take it as serious then. I would write raps, pass them to friends in class, and have them write something back. I started taking my career seriously when I was 21. I went from recording in a small shed to now recording in a professional studio with my record label, PB Records. I release music consistently, with new songs coming every month.
The most exciting part of what I do is being able to travel to different cities, perform my music, and meet new people. I’ve been able to form a great network of hard working people from different places outside of my own city. Music is something that is a part of everyone’s lives. I’m proud to know that I’m able to make music that people enjoy and give the time to listen to.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think the 3 qualities that best helped me and, in my opinion, help others succeed in life: consistency, self-awareness, and good social skills. Consistency is number one. Without being consistent, it is impossible to build a good reputation. If you tend to be late, cancel, or never show support, don’t expect yourself to get consistent success.
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
I think it’s good to know what you’re good at. But, being well rounded is even better. If you can work on your weaknesses, it boosts your existing strengths. For example, I used to lack being consistent despite my above average skill in writing music. I would only write a song every so often, and record even less. It took me a while, but I realized, with the help of two friends, that being consistent with my writing, would improve it. That sounds obvious, but, it takes introspection and help from friends, to realize what you need to work on.
