We caught up with the brilliant and insightful T Swang a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have T with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I would have to say I get my work ethic from my Dad Johnie Gullens Sr. Myself and all my brothers and sisters use to watch him go to work and to the Marine Corp every day since the age of 5-8yrs old. I don’t think I ever saw him take a day off. So, I guess that’s where it all comes from. If you don’t work hard, you don’t eat type of philosophy. I put everything into my passion and love for music. I’m pretty much self-taught.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I perform, produce, sing and write from a real world and sometimes fantasy perspective, I truly love adding my talk box to give my smooth vocal a very distinctive sound.
I truly love meeting and performing in front of an audience. I currently in my second-year contract with Bentley Records as a R&B-Hip Hop-Soul and Pop artist. I chose to be a multi-talented producer, writer, singer, and performer. One would say I’m quickly making waves in the Music Industry trying to establish myself as one of the most exciting artists in the music industry today. I draw inspiration from some of the most iconic figures in R&B and pop music, my music is characterized by its smooth melodies, infectious rhythms, and soulful vocals with a blend of old school funk that reintroduces hip hop, the talk box, and melody on most of or all of my songs. I just think it gives my music a unique millennium experience. As a writer, my lyrics are heartfelt and honest, drawing inspiration from personal experiences and the world around me. As a singer and performer, I know one thing for sure about me. I bring a powerful presence to the stage. Some have said I truly command the attention of the audience with my electrifying performances and magnetic charisma. I think it’s my ability to connect with the fans on a deeper level, both through my lyrics, music and live shows. I’m finding out more and more I have a loyal following and I’m on the right track establishing myself as one of the most lit artists of this time. TSwang’ music has been featured on various platforms, and he has collaborated with several well-known artists in the music industry. With the release of his current Release through Bentley Records: on all music streaming platforms like (Apple Music, Deezer, Pandora, Spotify, YouTube, Tidal, and Amazon) I Ain’t No Quitta, which promises to be a testament to his versatility and creativity as an artist. TSwang states I love meeting and adding new fans to team S Squad I look forward to meeting you at my future live or virtual concerts.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Having the right attitude and being adaptable in this industry is supper important. 2. Know what you can do and bring to the table and stand on it.
3. Try to create from an honest place with your music or song.
4. Try your best to make that music that gives you goosebumps.
5. Make sure you have someone that’s better than you are doing what you do as a mentor or advice person.
6. Believe in yourself, Believe in yourself, Believer in yourself.
7. If you can’t do something hire someone who can.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
I had to learn it’s okay not to do it right now. You sometimes have to wait for that moment to shine.
There’s and audience for everything. You have spectators and then you have Superfans.
Trust is still earned and not given or taken.
Be honest with your fans, don’t mislead them into believing your something you’re not.
