Hi Tabitha, really appreciate you joining us to talk about a really relevant, albeit unfortunate topic – layoffs and getting fired. Can you talk to us about your experience and how you overcame being let go?
I was inspired to pursue entrepreneurship due to being laid off a company where I have worked for many years. Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I used that energy into starting my own cruelty-free cosmetic brand. I would wear lip-gloss all the time even to bed. So I said hey start making your own and having it smell like candy and I did just that.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Exotic Kiss Cosmetics is a trendsetting online cosmetics store, offering our first-rate products and exceptional customer service to shoppers from the comfort of their own homes. We’re a cosmetics business that specializes and handmade, vegan and cruelty-free products. We recently added prison merch/parole packets to the business. Our online store has become synonymous with quality, and we ensure a continuous variety of fantastic merchandise that fits any budget.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Research. It is important to gain knowledge and insight of the business or products for your business. You should be an expert of your business for your business.

Trial and error. Don’t be afraid to fail in order to succeed. If it doesn’t work, regroup and try again.

Never give up. Nothing is easy, especially owning a business. Being a boss is a 24/7 job especially when you are just starting. Take your time and keep going. Keep striving and backing your business. Ignore the negative and put in the work. It will pay off in due time. If no one else believes it, you have to in order to bring a dream to life.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Being a business owner takes a lot of hard work and dedication. There are times where I want to give up but when you invest your heart and soul into your business giving up isn’t an option. I’ve learned to push and stay dedicated no matter what the outcome is. Some days I receive big orders and some days, I don’t get any orders at all but that only motivates me to push harder. Targeting the right audience is a challenge in itself.
