Meet Tamara Mechael

We recently connected with Tamara Mechael and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamara, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
I have always been a risk taker since I was a baby. If something has a guaranteed outcome, what’s the fun in doing it? I love using my brain in ways that challenge me to think outside the box and do what I naturally wouldn’t. Life is for having new experiences! I could not imagine a life where every day looked the same to me. Because of this, I have the choice to either quietly submit to a life I hate or be a risk taker- I chose the latter!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
An upcoming project of mine is an animated short film about Christmas. I am working on this with skilled digital animators from around the world, Grammy award winning and platinum producers, and accomplished voice actors. The goal is to bring back Christmas magic for the children and, in turn, everyone! Many Christmas films nowadays talk about love during the holidays, or visiting back home to see family, or losing a job around Christmas time. The pure, blissful Christmas magic returns with my short film (title reveal coming soon)! I have been working on this film since 2020, and it is my professional debut as both a screenwriter and a filmmaker. I am super excited to be working on this, as it is my self-proclaimed passion project, and am beyond happy with where the film is going so far!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Sisterhood has kept me going on this journey through the industry. If I did not have my family on the business side with me, I do not think I’d have ever pursued the career this far. Having people who ride for you in life is important, and in the entertainment industry it is rare. Going into the industry with my family is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise snake-filled industry (for lack of a softer term). God is also most important to all of us-He holds our family together through it all! Music is the third, and self explanatory, factor that impacted my journey as a writer. Had my sister and I not been so musically involved in different groups as children, we would not have taken this path through entertainment, and my dreams as a writer would not have been realized!

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
A challenge that I am not alone in facing among independent industry peers is uncertainty of the future. I need to work on being more able to surrender myself to the Will of God and not worry so much about what my future looks like tomorrow. The importance of living in the moment cannot be stressed enough, especially in an industry that ebbs and flows like entertainment! Almost every day, I have to remind myself to stop and smell the flowers. If I told myself 15, 10, even 5 years ago where I’d be today in my life, my jaw would probably drop and I’d be on my knees in thanks to God. That thought alone reminds me to be grateful for what I have now if I ever expect to receive anything more!
