We were lucky to catch up with Tamia (Mia) Caldwell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tamia (Mia), thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
I am able to persist because I have a lot of confidence and good self -esteem . I’m not phased by anyone who talks about me negatively because we all are entitled to our own opinions. I also think if someone is speaking negatively on me that says a lot about who they are . I know who I am and I am confident in who I am . I get to do what I love and I’m happy . Why would I let a little hate stop that ? It motivates me . I’m only in competition with myself .
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I travel the world for a living and I vlog while I do it . I like to share other cultures with the world and I like to learn more about them . I share my experience with others because I want to inspire other young people to get out more and to see the world around us because ir awaits us . Travel has taught me more about myself and life then any book ever has . I would like everyone to know that this dream is achievable and you can do whatever your heart desires.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think the three most skills/qualities I needed were 1. To be outgoing/ sociable 2. You have to be a risk taker and most importantly 3. You have to be confident because people are going to question you , be negative towards your dream , and hate on you . You can not let what other people say or think deter you from your goal .
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
I love this question !!! I’m the only child so I could go on all day about how many impactful things my parents have done for me along the years . They believe in me and they like to see me happy . They have done soooo much for me . The most impactful thing they did was buy my passport for me . They don’t even have a passport . I truly will never forget that kind gesture and it showed how much they support me . I love my parents ! Thank you to my parents !!
