Meet Tanya Kormeili MD

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tanya Kormeili MD a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Dr. Kormeili, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
By the time I was twelve, I had already lived in 3 different continents, studied 5 different languages and had experienced a revolution and a war! My resilience is from my family. They always, regardless of the turmoil of the outside world, gave me love, attention and made me feel valued. We were always focused on “what is possible in the future” and my parents never lets us dwell too much on what was wrong in the past. We were taught by example how not to be “victims of the past” but rather “visionaries of the future!” Hard work, focus, family, and love were at the center of my upbringing, a set of values that I hope to pass on by example to my kids.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Love and family is at the center of my core values. In building the Derm & Rejuvenation Institute, I envisioned a “home” for my patients and staff to come together to create health and beauty. We are growing old together gracefully and in optimum skin health and beauty for every decade. We value ethics, connection and people. We believe in gold standards of treatment with proven safety and efficacy, not social media fads that expose people to liability. We use the same technology and tools to treat our own family members as our patients and staff. We love our family at Derm & Rejuvenation Institute, made of staff, physicians and patients of likeminded values.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Thinking with Solutions- The road to success isn’t linear, easy or even pleasant at times! There are barriers in all we set out to do. Being able to navigate the barriers and always focusing on solutions rather than problems is key. 2. Community of support. We are influenced by the energy of those around us. Surrounding yourself with people who support you, believe in you, and foster your growth is essential. Also, get rid of the people who bring you down and make you feel bad about yourself and the world!
3. Hard work- There is no secret that it takes time, effort, energy, money and sacrifice to get to any goal worth achieving. Accepting that this is the truth, there is little complaining to do about the hard work and much optimism about the results around the corner!

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Becoming a mother of two, business owner, dermatologist, wife, daughter, student, and friend all at the same time and coordinating my life to keep track of my responsibilities is really a challenge! I want to be everywhere and be 100% literally 100% of the time and that is not human! I am growing in my ability to learn self-kindness, forgiveness and compassion. I am learning how to be more efficient and make each moment count. My goal is to be more present and make a bigger impact with smaller amounts of time that is divided in each area of my life. My goal is to help other busy parents like me be their best selves too!
