We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tara Towler Cumby LPC CPCS. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tara below.
Hi Tara, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
As a therapist, I teach and discuss self-care daily. I had learned that I also needed to take time each day to take care of myself. Since I have implemented self-care practices daily, I have seen a shift in my stress levels. I began taking a few minutes in the morning to breathe and reflect. Throughout my day, if I am feeling overwhelmed or stress I practice box breathing or 1,2,3,4 let go breathing. Every individual on this journey should know that their self-care routine will change over time. Which is fine.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

We help clients in Atlanta, Dunwoody, Alpharetta, and Sandy Springs, Georgia.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My practice opened up because I set a goal, implemented processes to achieve it, and focused. Those I found that staying focused and remembering that all this work would pay off was the key to success. I was implementing and sticking to my goals. I knew I wanted a private practice by 30 and I accomplished that. I have since reevaluated my goals which is why I have decided to expand my practice.
How would you describe your ideal client?
I have found that my ideal client has changed over the years. While I am passionate about helping everyone, I know where my specialties are. My primary approach is cognitive behavior therapy, which involves working with clients to identify and change harmful thoughts and behaviors. I have a particular passion for working with women struggling with postpartum depression, pregnancy loss, and termination. I also have a passion for aiding those experiencing anxiety and depression related to motherhood. I understand what it is like to be a mom and having so many responsibilities. I find that women are willing to help everyone before we stop helping ourselves which is why I have Atlanta mindfulness therapy. To help moms help themselves. We make therapy easy for moms.
