Meet Tasha Hickey

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tasha Hickey . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tasha below.

Hi Tasha , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience is deeply rooted in my life perspective. I hold a profound belief that my journey has a purpose and that every step, whether challenging or smooth, is part of a greater plan. This unwavering conviction gives me the strength to face adversity with determination. I firmly trust that my purpose will ultimately make sense of all the challenges and triumphs. With this outlook, I move forward with the confidence that, no matter the obstacles, my purpose will ultimately prevail and guide me towards my goals.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the founder of Purposefully Painted, a brand dedicated to empowering Black women and girls through a unique combination of culturally affirming nail care and holistic wellness education. What excites me most about this endeavor is the profound impact it has on our community. We’re not just offering luxury semi-permanent nails; we’re facilitating a rite of passage and a pathway to holistic well-being that addresses the unique challenges Black women face.

What makes Purposefully Painted special is our commitment to providing products and services that recognize the beauty, self-care, and wellness journey of Black women and children. This approach goes beyond aesthetics; it’s about fostering a sense of belonging, self-love, and community among our clients.

We’ve recently launched a new website and would love for you to check it out. We are looking to add a community tab to stir up some conversation. But for now check out our luxury nail options.

I’m thrilled about the positive change we’re bringing to the lives of Black women and girls, and I look forward to continuing this journey of empowerment and self-care.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that have been incredibly impactful are:

Resilience: The ability to bounce back from challenges and setbacks is vital. I’d advise those early in their journey to develop resilience by maintaining a clear understanding of their purpose and maintaining a strong belief in the value of their mission. Cultivating resilience means viewing obstacles as opportunities for growth and staying committed to your vision, no matter the hurdles.
Cultural Competency: In my field, it’s crucial to have a deep understanding of cultural nuances, especially when catering to specific communities. I would encourage newcomers to invest time in learning about the culture and experiences of the people they aim to serve. Building cultural competency ensures that your products or services are not only respectful but also resonant with your audience.
Continuous Learning: The landscape of business, wellness, and beauty is always evolving. Staying informed and updated is essential. My advice for those starting out is to never stop learning. Attend workshops, read, seek mentorship, and network with professionals in your field. Knowledge is power, and being well-informed gives you a competitive edge.
For those early in their journey, I’d say, “Embrace your unique perspective.” Your personal experiences and background are your greatest assets. They can guide you to create something meaningful and authentic. Additionally, don’t be afraid to ask for help or seek mentorship. There’s a wealth of knowledge and support out there if you’re willing to reach out and learn from others’ experiences. Lastly, stay open to adaptability. Your journey may take unexpected turns, but it’s in those pivots that we often find the most growth and success.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
If you’re a creative and passionate woman interested in collaborating to create a wellness rites of passage for black women and girls, I’d love to connect with you. Whether you’re an artist, educator, wellness professional, or have unique skills to bring to this endeavor, let’s explore the possibilities together. My vision is to build a strong community of like-minded individuals who are dedicated to this cause.

You can connect with me through our website or social media channels, where we often share updates, events, and opportunities for collaboration. Feel free to reach out and share your ideas and aspirations. Together, we can make a significant impact on the wellness and empowerment of black women and girls.

Your passion, creativity, and commitment are valuable assets in creating positive change, and I’m excited to collaborate with you to make our shared vision a reality.
