We were lucky to catch up with Tasha Hutchison recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tasha, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I’ve always been an avid reader. When I was sixteen years old my mother said I’d become a bit of a drama queen. So, whenever I would exhibit any of the characteristics of a drama queen, I would have to write a story. But it had to be a complete with a story idea, conflict, and resolution.
After a while I became passionate about writing, and she would have to encourage me to take a break from it. By the time I knew it I’d written a book. Although I only had a select few to read those stories. On a positive note, they enjoyed them all and encouraged me to continue writing.
I spent many years studying, reading, and practicing in order to improve my writing skills. Though in my opinion learning is never-ending. When it is a passion, you want to ensure you are creating stories that will evoke emotions withing your readers.
So, my confidence comes from the people who encourage me and my scholastic background.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am an author who writes in the women’s fiction genre. When I began writing I learned organization makes the writing process easier and it also allows you enjoy writing. There is this great debate amongst writers about pansters vs plotters. I’ll say this, plotting ensures you won’t write yourself into a brick wall halfway through. If you know where the story is going, you can get to THE END, and typing those words brings a satisfaction I cannot describe. It’s an experience.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Do not write for the current fads. Write the story that is in your heart. That is when you will create a timeless story. Fads fade overtime.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Piggybacking on an earlier question/answer of my mother knowing what I was passionate about and redirecting my drama queen antics. Because of my mother’s parenting style to redirection, I was able to tap into a skill I myself didn’t know I embodied. For that, I thank her for all my accomplishments.
