We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tasha Nicholson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tasha, sincerely appreciate your selflessness in agreeing to discuss your mental health journey and how you overcame and persisted despite the challenges. Please share with our readers how you overcame. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
This question is very relevant considering that alot of people are struggling with mental health issues currently. I can attest to the fact that it is not easy nor is there an easy solution. Despite my MANY trials and tribulations I’ve always believed in my heart that I had purpose and I would come out on top so I never let anything or anyone alter that thought. I sought the help of a counselor when managing the lows were becoming too heavy and shortly after that I found an amazing church home shout out to Charisma City!! Finding a church home has been monumental in helping me through my mental health issues. Having a good, solid support system is imperative and can make all the difference.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m Tasha aka the Qualified Queen Owner of Tashas Salon LLC located in Denton Tx. I have served in the beauty industry as a stylist/makeup artist since 2006. Sheesh thats almost 20yrs! I’ve been a salon owner for about 10. I’m suuuuper excited about my latest product launch. I was inspired to create a versatile hair styling product that could work with different hair needs and textures. As a stylist that does many things I use alot of products so the idea of just using one key product to do several things only made sense. As i mentioned earlier I’ve always struggled with mental health so I’ve had to take anti depressents to leverage that. Though it worked well with managing emotion it caused a major mental block in other areas. By the grace of God I was able to get off the meds cold turkey in which I dont recommend anyone do because it can very well be dangerous. I just trusted God and had faith and really just stopped taking them without even thinking about it. Shortly after that the ideas begin to start flowing again and the mental block was gone so I picked back up my ideas, dusted them off and put them into action. I was able to collab with an awesome vendor and bring my vision to life after a veeery long time and I’m ecstatic about the results we created and even more ecstatic that the vision has finally came to fruition and is now tangible. I have a few other products I am working on that will be released in 2024 and I plan to expand even more and hire employees and slowly back away from being behind the chair and pivot into more of a coaching space to help others develop themselves and their brand.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Luckily we’re living in super techy, social media driven times so knowledge is literally at our fingertips Skills can be improved and/or learned by simply watching Youtube videos and/or investing in online classes so gaining skills and knowledge is super easy. The qualities a person should possess to be able to have longevity in the game is a humble heart, a kind soul, drive, ambition, and persistence just to name a few . People having a humble heart and a kind soul is what I feel the world is missing. People want to feel cared about, important, and simply noticed beyond their dollar. The world is so fast paced and money focused that the customer service factor is becoming obsolete. Leading with amazing customer service alone is a game changer. You have to want what you want and literally go get it. That requires pushing past the negativity, the naysayers, being shy, uncomfortable all those things that keep you being still and in the shadows. You gotta MOVE to move forward.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Rich dad Poor dad was an amazing, eye opening book for me. Some valuable key take aways I got from the book was realizing that I need to have assets over liabilities and get financially educated. A quote from the book that stuck with me is,”Dont be addicted to money. Work to learn. Don’t work for money. Work for knowledge.” That’s deep when you think about it. That book was a major eye opener for me. Very impactful. I would encourage any and everyone to read it.
