We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taylor Winstead. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taylor below.
Taylor , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
I love this question. I live by the saying “If you are Blessed, be a Blessing” More than once in my life have I or my family fallen on hard times and it was due to the generosity of others that we were able to endure and overcome whatever was thrown our way.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the CEO of a Apparel & Homegoods company centered around Veterans & 1st Responders. The driving force behind what we do is being able to give back to those that have given so much for Our Country & Our Communities. The Frontline Heroes of the World. Each month we donate a portion of a our profits to an Organization for Veterans or 1st Responders. We have a fund called Gritt & Gratitude as well that we put into each month as another way to give back. We host events every year to help Bridge the gap between 1st responders and the community.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Advice. Something everyone needs; Tenacity. Once you decide to start a company, curve ball after curve ball will be thrown your way. You will have to decide how bad you want it. On more than one occasion early on I had to place Battle Gritt on hold. I had my youngest child in 2019 and he was born with a Heart Condition that I had no idea about beforehand. After he was stable I reopened Battle Gritt and that passion and drive has helped propel us forward. The big 3. Drive. Passion & a good bottle of wine are needed
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
I like to think my biggest area of growth over the past 12 months has been getting more comfortable in my own skin and saying “no” to things that no longer serve me or make sense for my family. Personally & Professionally it has made a huge difference. It only took me 32 years to figure that out.
