Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tempest B.. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tempest, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Taking time for self-care has always been an issue for me. In the past it has been a struggle to understand that I need to take a break and do something for ME, something I can enjoy. Self-care is something I have worked diligently towards incorporating into my life.
I usually like to take a Saturday and treat myself to a sit down breakfast, preferably at a place I haven’t tried before, then I will go sit at a lake and relax or do some retail therapy. Anything to get me out the house and somewhere I can enjoy myself and relax.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a Forensic Scientist by profession but I also run a Home-based Bakery, Temp’s Sweet Eats. I think the most exciting thing about baking is the creativity that comes along with it! From trying different flavor combinations to exploring different type of ways to decorate desserts.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think one quality is that has been impactful for me, Is my ability to adapt. Let’s be honest, in baking things don’t always turn out how I want it or expect it; so being able to adapt and adjust and correct is something that’s needed. I think another thing that has been impactful , and it kind of goes along the lines of the first thing, is my desire to continue learning. I don’t know how to do everything; so being able to look things up and research and practice has allowed me to improve my craft.
The third thing that has been impactful, is something more practical, is my basic math skills lol. There are lots of times I need to halve or double recipes, so sometimes on the fly I have to do some mental calculations to adjust the recipes. Yes I can look it up as well, and sometimes I do, but it’s quicker if just know.
The best advice I can give is to be intentional and focused and things will fall into place.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
There’s a family friend/ my mom’s old coworker who is a baker, so growing up, for alot of events she baked the cakes. So when I started my baking journey she was so excited for me and offered alot of knowledge and advice that has stuck with me til this day.
