We were lucky to catch up with Tennecia Watkins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tennecia, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
From an early age, my parents instilled in me the idea that I could do anything I put my mind to. I have believed that my whole life. With that idea, I have been able to accomplish many things that were once dreams or ideas.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a certified elementary teacher. I have spent the last 23+ years teaching in public schools. I am currently still teaching in the school system. However, one of my goals in life (outside of teaching) was to own my own business. I currently am the co-owner of Studio Unlimited in Douglasville, GA. My co-owner and I are residents of Douglas County. We had the desire to open a business that would give residents of Douglas County something to do in their own city. We currently offer the following services: DIY painting of canvas, rug tufting classes, candle making classes, and bath bomb making classes, More activites and services are coming soon. Both adults and children are welcome. We strive to provide services in an atmosphere that is clean, safe, family-oriented, and fun. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three things that were impactful on my journey: 1. The ability to be organized.
2. You must have optimism/faith to keep going and to be able to withstand the unpredictable flow of business.
3. You must have a desire to present the kind of service to people that makes them feel comfortable and welcomed.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The number one obstacle I am facing in business right now is business promotion. Many people are not aware that we are here in Douglasville. We use social media to market the business and post fliers wherever possible. In the future, I plan to find an affordable company that can more effectively market the business for us.
