Meet Terha Newby

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Terha Newby. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Terha with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Having a strong ethical trait means so, SO much to me. Growing up, I wasn’t surrounded by a lot of positive role models with strong work ethics. There was one person, however, with a work ethic that was beyond admirable and that was my uncle; this man raised me from a toddler through adulthood and he did it was such grace. Watching my uncle struggle to navigate through life from woking countless small handyman jobs, rain or shine all to ensure a roof over our heads and food on our plates, demonstrated such discipline and accountability for his trade. Possessing a strong worth ethic doesn’t just happen; it’s created. Created by wanting to do good work, and being honest and having integrity and accountability while being fair and respectful in your work trade. Having my uncle demonstrate these important qualities from his personal work ethic, helped mold me into a wanting to obtain a personal work ethic for myself that I could be proud of, along with other people in my life, too.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have been a florist in Southern California for over 7 glorious years now. I have had/get the pleasure of bringing clients’ floral visions to life for their BIG special day. There is something so special about meeting my clients’, learning their unique visions, and getting to create their dream floral design; is just a next level, AWESOME feeling. Not to mention being around the countless different aromas of various flowers while creating floral designs has its perks, too. Although I specialize is wedding floral, I do other events, too: bridal showers, birthdays, special events, baby showers, etc.!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
For me, being open minded to trying new techniques and not being scared to try something went far for me. I’m always willing to learn and grown in my trade in any way I can. Even if it means creating something out of ordinary just to see how it turns out, it will help you grow in one way or another. Here is the thing, everyone, no matter what their trade is, may not start off amazing at what they do. But by practice, patience, and hard work, your talent will grow, your confidence will grow, and so will your appreciation for the trade.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Hands down, my husband, no questions asked. Being a business owner, you obtain a lot of responsibilities, hardships, unknown circumstances, and knowledge about your business that only goes through your head. Having my husband be the one to constantly help me overcome challenges I face by walking with me hand in hand to overcome them together, has been a blessing. Running my floral business with someone on the other side ensuring me of my knowledge and qualities I bring to my own business, has helped me obtain everything I need to keep going.
