We recently connected with Terrance Pittman and have shared our conversation below.
Terrance, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
Staying persistent when receiving hate can be a challenge but by staying confident in my abilities and always striving to be better allows me to focus on what’s important! Which I believe is providing a quality product & service and focusing on ways to improve. I had to learn that it’s me against me. I am my own competition, and I cannot perfect my craft by focusing on the doubters, negative comments, or another business’ advancement.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I founded Drip Team Prints in 2019 with just custom tees. Now along with custom clothing we also offer custom Logo Neon Signs, Logo Rugs, Decal & Wall Stickers. What’s special about Drip Team Prints is being able to bring different business owners and customers ideas to life with the variety of services we offer. In addition to our custom products, we have opened our new studio on South Broadway, in St Louis, where you can come and make your own custom rug! We provide hands-on, step-by-step instruction and all the supplies are included. Classes are only a few hours and you go home with a completed rug – Same Day! We are also excited to announce Date Night’s, beginning September 2023. Date Night’s will be held each and every Friday with a variety of crafts or projects to choose from.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Problem solving, creativity, and discovering my target audience were the 3 major skills that helped me along my entrepreneur journey. To anyone looking to start their own business, I would tell them to first discover their target audience and heavily market to them. Learning who exactly your product/service appeals to will help you better understand your supply v demand, ultimately saving you time, work, and money in the long run.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
‘This Is Marketing’ by Seth Godin is a must read. It’s helped me with the development of my marketing skills, specifically building trust & permission with my audience, and replacing old advertising and branding approaches with new & updated strategies that are more effective.
