We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Terrelle Smith-Bradford a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Terrelle, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my mother. She was my Shero in a sense. When I was younger, I would see my mom jungle so many things when it came to work, family, extended family, church and school. Yes, I saw my mother get not one but two degrees over the age of 40. So, I have to say my strength comes from her.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
“Hey there, let me share my incredible life journey with you. I spent a fulfilling 30 years in the hair industry, but one day, I decided to take a leap and became a realtor. Life had its twists, though. In 2021, I lost my dear sister, and it felt like I had to find a new way of living.
But the story doesn’t stop there. I also discovered my ministerial gift and found fulfillment in walking this path alongside my real estate career. I married a wonderful person, and together, we embraced raising my beautiful niece and built a blended family full of love and support.
And guess what? I became a million-dollar producer in the real estate world for three consecutive months, defying all odds. This is a story of resilience, love, the determination to live life to the fullest, and embracing my ministerial gift. Join me on this incredible journey!”
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, I believe that adaptability, resilience, and continuous learning have been the three most impactful qualities. My advice for those early in their journey would be to embrace change, bounce back from setbacks, and never stop seeking new knowledge and experiences. These qualities will help you navigate the unpredictable path of life and personal growth.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Throughout my journey, various mentors, both personal and professional, But most of all the Lord has kept me on this journey called life. My sheep which is my mom have been instrumental in helping me overcome challenges and develop essential skills. Their guidance, feedback, and support have been invaluable. However, it’s also essential to acknowledge the role of self-motivation and personal determination in building success. In addition to mentors, my husband, my daughter and my own drive and willingness to learn have played a crucial role in my development.
