Meet The Michigan Guru

We recently connected with The Michigan Guru and have shared our conversation below.

The Michigan, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Honestly, both my parents. I can even go as far as saying my grandparents, as well, but if I had to choose one person, I would have to say, my father. My whole childhood, I would watch both my parents work but my dad worked his butt off to support our family. Work ethic was installed in me and my sister, from day one. There would be days I wouldn’t see m y father all week. Id wake up, go to school – have a full day out – and be in bed in the evenings by the time he’d make it home.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a traveling Michigander that vlogs and photographs my great state of Michigan. I feel I stand out from all the other vloggers because I give you a bird’s eye view of the state and the vision through my eyes. When I film, I show you what I am seeing. I feel my state is an absolutely beautiful place. A place that needs to be recognized for what it is. It’s my mission to show you the beauty of Michigan. I visit the landscapes and backroads. It’s what I want to be known for.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
As a child growing up, my mother was a photographer part time. I would travel and help her photograph areas of Michigan, weddings, etc. I got hands on lessons on cameras. As far as filming, that was a task I had to discover myself. Also, while growing up, my parents traveled summer vacations all across Michigan. There were times I remember camping in the middle of nowhere. In the woods. Somewhere in the middle of upper Michigan. Cooking dinner on the campfire, showering in the rain, walking miles and miles on beaches to see the local lighthouse. I could go on and on. I learned a lot from being shown what Michigan really looked like and felt like. Of course, my parents knew where we were the whole time, but as a child, you always thought you were lost! lol.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
The growth I have had to face and tackle in the past year has been a decent number of things! Angles to filming, timing on filming, how to get content out to viewers in an acceptable amount of time to keep them interested but also not going overboard with too much content. Plus taking time on learning editing. That part to me, editing, has been the most challenging part. Not only do you have to film the content, shoot the content, all while shooting in 3 different ratios for different platforms, but also film in different ratios for the platforms. It’s kind of a lot! But I have grown in this aspect and feel pretty confident that I will continue to do so and reach the goals I am chasing.
