We recently connected with Tia Williams and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tia, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
I persist despite the haters by tuning out the noise. One thing that I learned early in life is that no matter what you do people will always have something to say and that you can’t please everyone. I don’t view myself through the lens of the world, but I focus on doing what is pleasing to God. The thing about the world is that one day people will love you the next day they will hate you. This is why I continue to work on my self-esteem and make sure that I pour into myself.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’ll start of by saying that I do a lot. Currently I’m a Talent Acquisition Sourcer for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Owner of Fashion_is_a_habit LLC, and host of 2 Real Podcast. It’s exciting to showcase my talent on various platforms and spaces. Recently I’ve been working hard to grow my podcast. The goal of the podcast is to inspire people to keep pushing forward despite life’s challenges.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the biggest thing is staying true to yourself. There have been many situations where I felt that I was treated poorly, but I didn’t let those situations take me out of my character. In those situations, I remained professional and calm. I think it’s important not to let people get to you and take you out of your set up. Along with that being adaptable is extremely important. Many times, we picture our lives going one way and it ends up going another way. When things don’t work out as planned, I grieve and then I go to strategy mode because I know that I must keep going. Lastly having a positive mindset makes a big difference. It’s important to believe that things will work out and speak life into your situation.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
The biggest struggle for me right now is time. I feel that I’m being pulled in so many different directions that I don’t know if I’m coming or going. I can be very hard on myself because I want to do everything and complete every task at a high level every time. I’m learning to take breaks and give myself grace. It’s very important to rest and recenter.
