We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiana Uribe a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tiana , so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
For me, optimism is a choice, a discipline that I work on daily by deciding to show up in the most genuine and authentic way possible and more often than not, I choose optimism. I’m nearly finished re-reading, Shawn Achor’s book, “The Happiness Advantage-How a Positive Brain Fuels Success in Work and Life” and there’s scientific data supporting that happiness and optimism actually fuel performance and achievement. Along with the studies on the connection between optimism and happiness, Achor references that happiness “is relative to the person experiencing it-because its based on how we each feel about our own lives. In essence, the best judge of how happy you are is you”. Holding myself accountable helps to reinforce that optimism is a mindset and a choice that I have control over. It also feels better and boosts my endorphins!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’ve been in the financial sector for the majority of my professional life and I still absolutely love it. I’m constantly learning something new and I’m passionate about sharing that knowledge and real world experiences with others. Mortgage financing and real estate are often hot topics and there’s never a dull moment in the industry riding the lows and highs and everything in between. As my career has progressed, I’m excited to help women understand and navigate mortgage financing and finding the right match in a house, whether it’s a first time purchase, step-up home or investment. Women still earn less than their male counterparts, outlive men, and have less invested in their retirement. I believe it’s imperative to know your options and what women can do to have more control over their financial futures. Whether they are saving for a first home and investing in the market while renting or unmarried and entering the real estate market as a solo buyer or wondering what it would look like to partner up with a friend, colleague, or family member so they can begin building intergenerational wealth, these are the conversations that keep me passionate about my business. I’m in the process of developing online courses that address these hot topics and areas of concern for women and look forward to launching this Spring!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the most important skill sets for me professionally have been resilience, consistency, and authenticity. It takes not only resilience to keep going through the cycles of the market and forming new and creative ways to reach a target demographic with consistency while remaining on brand and authentic to myself and the message of assisting women through the challenges and perceived barriers that may stall entrance into purchasing real estate and building wealth.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I think collaboration is key to the success of any business and mine is no exception. I often receive questions about Estate Planning, Homeowner’s Insurance, and house based projects that may require contractors and sub-contractors.
Connecting with podcast hosts with a female based audience interested in financing, real estate, and lending may find the courses I’m launching and the knowledge and education on specific topics like credit, grants and low down payments, and pros and cons of renting vs. owning interesting to their demographic and increasing awareness on updates and resources available and new tools on the horizon.
