Meet Tina Berry

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tina Berry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Tina , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from several different people in my life. One set of grandparents were farmers and worked day in and out making a living for their large family. My Maternal Grandmother worked tirelessly as a single Mother to provide for her kids and even after a cancer diagnosis she still worked in our family farmers market. You can say hard work has always been in our blood. My parents started a small business at the beginning of their marriage and over time it became extremely successful!! They worked tirelessly day and night to build it from the ground up. My sister, brother, and I were taught determination, resilience, and that nothing was given to you… it had to be earned. We literally grew up in this business. It’s all we knew….it was our life. Then, I met my husband and he’s one of the hardest working men I’ve ever known. I guess you can say it’s been all around me my whole life and truly been instilled in me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My husband and I own a Pop-Up Farmers Market. Our young girls, my sister, and parents all pitch in to help my husband and I make it work each week. It’s a pretty big production! We specialize in providing quality, local, fresh produce that we hand pick from farmers and wholesalers at our state farmers market at an affordable price. Our promise is to provide the best vine-ripe tomatoes, tree-ripe peaches, berries, beans, jams, jellies, and lots more to our local community. It came into fruition 2 years after my parents retired and sold their beloved market that had been around for almost 50 years. My dream was to continue their legacy that was our family market in some sort of way. We did it and we are so fortunate to have so many customers and friends that are truly like family to us that come each and every week! Many of them have watched us grow up but also watched our kids grow up. They know us by name and we know theirs. It’s like a family reunion every weekend. This makes us different!! I seriously lay awake at night thinking of other and better ways to serve our sweet customers. It’s truly a blessing to serve this local community each week! We also deliver to some local businesses and even local schools and hope to do even more in the future!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are determination, resilience, and hard work. You have to be determined to be a small business owner because there are so many challenges sometimes every day. You have to learn to work through the struggles to reach your potential. Resilience is very important too because once you get knocked down, you have to get back up!! Lastly, hard work is the most important thing to me! Always be the hardest worker in the room…always! Make sure you want and expect the very best from yourself every single day! That will make your dreams come too!! Work with a mentor or seasoned professional to help you develop these skills because I believe they are truly important!!

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Haha!! Sometimes that’s a lot!! I actually have learned that stress is truly not good for us. So, when I feel overwhelmed, I love to go to the gym. It clears my head…boosts my mood, and gives me a crazy rush. I also love to go for a walk outside. There’s something about the sunshine that makes you feel better. Also, sometimes I just need to take a couple of deep breathes and focus on something else for a few minutes to calm my mind.
